Preview — What We Do In the Shadows Season 5 Will Tell Us What Happened to Guillermo

Everyone’s favorite mockumentary-style vampire series What We Do in the Shadows returns to FX this summer, bringing with it more socially awkward undead hijinks, as Nandor, Guillermo, Lazlo, Nadja, and Colin Robinson must all deal with the fallout from the Season 4 finale.

When we last left the Staten Island crew, the attitude-heavy teen version of Colin had suddenly grown up, reverting to his previous tan-wearing corporate suit version and completely forgetting the father-son bond his younger self had formed with Lazlo.

The group’s loyal familiar Guillermo, frustrated with Nandor’s repeated refusal to turn him into a vampire, asks his friend Derek to share his immortality. And Najda burned down the vampire night club that had been the central location of many of Season 4’s stories.

What does all that mean about what we should expect for Season 5?

Promotional materials indicate that while Guillermo may have been successful when it comes to getting Derek to try and turn him, the jury is still very much out on whether that transformation will actually stick. With his Van Helsing blood it looks like trying to become the thing he’s basically been born to hunt will lead to some unexpected consequences.

Season description: In season five, Nandor feels his familiar (and sometimes friend) Guillermo slipping away as he seems to be spending much more time with Laszlo, whose skills as a gentleman scientist are put to the test as he tries to solve the mystery of the strange and very secret changes Guillermo is going through. Nadja, suffering the effects of a previously-undiagnosed supernatural hex, reconnects with her family — or at least, a family — from the Old Country, Colin pursues the path of so many energy vampires before him by running for political office and The Guide tries to figure out where she fits in as the relative newcomer to this tightly-knit group who’ve known each other for centuries.
