David Lascher and Christine Taylor Reflect on ‘Hey Dude’ and Talk About Their New Podcast [Interview]
The ATX TV Festival brought plenty of nostalgia this year, especially with the TV Podcast Showcase presented by iHeartPodcasts. Among the panelists were David Lascher and Christine Taylor from the iconic ’90s series Hey Dude, there to discuss their podcast, “Hey Dude… the 90s Called!”
We caught up with Lascher and Taylor during the ATX TV Festival opening night red carpet to talk about their podcast and memories from working on Hey Dude. (You can watch the full interview below.)
Lascher and Taylor work with iHeart Podcasts for “Hey Dude… The 90s Called” and the idea was something they were quickly excited about.
“The guests we’ve had and the opportunities to interview people that made a mark in the ’90s was so exciting to us,” Lascher said. “It’s been amazing.”
“And selfishly, to get back to working with this guy after decades of being apart and knowing each other,” Taylor added as another reason the podcast idea was appealing. “So we’re sort of getting to know each other again at a different stage in our lives, and we’ve been loving it.”
When asked about memories that stood out from working on Hey Dude, Lascher recalled a particular birthday.
“I remember turning 17, and you’re smashing my face into a cake,” he laughed, nodding to Taylor. “It was just so much fun. We were young, and literally carefree, but working hard and learning a lot. And working with great people.”
“Yeah, I mean it sounds cliche, but it really was the friendships and the sort of innocence of it, I think,” Taylor said.
“And being able to look back on that time in our lives. We loved it, but I think now we almost appreciate it more.”

Hey Dude was, of course, iconic for kids in the 90s, and now it’s getting new life thanks to streaming.“It was so funny, because for years, it was, I mean, we couldn’t get [it],” Taylor said. “I still had VHS recordings that my dad would record, you know?”
“I had those too!” Lascher laughed.
“I had done The Brady Bunch Movie for Paramount,” Taylor recalled. “And I remember saying, is there any way I can get episodes of Hey Dude on DVD, and they made them for me on DVD.”
“The streaming, it has opened up a whole new world of fans that loved us back then and are re-living it again, which I think has been wonderful.”
