Physical to End with Season 3 on Apple TV+
The Rose Byrne-led dark comedy Physical is coming to an end with its upcoming third season on Apple TV+.
From creator, writer, and executive producer Annie Weisman, Physical‘s 10-episode final season will premiere on Wednesday, August 2.
The series, on which Byrne also services as an executive producer, debuted on the streaming service with Physical Season 1 Episode 1, “Let’s Do This,” Season 1 Episode 2, “Let’s Get Political,” and Season 1 Episode 3, “Let’s Get Down,” in June 2021.
The series scored a Season 3 renewal days before its sophomore season concluded with Physical Season 2 Episode 10, “Don’t Say It’s Over,” in August 2022.
Set in 1980s San Diego, Physical follows Byrne’s Sheila Rubin, “a quietly tortured, seemingly dutiful housewife supporting her smart but controversial husband’s bid for state assembly. But behind closed doors, Sheila has her own darkly funny take on life she rarely lets the world see,” per the show’s synopsis.
“She’s also battling a complex set of personal demons relating to her self-image… that is until she finds release through the unlikeliest source: the world of aerobics.”
Physical Season 2 sees Sheila launch her first fitness video that brings about new obstacles, including new competitors that complicate her mission to build “a full-fledged fitness empire.”
Physical‘s ensemble will expand to include Zooey Deschanel in the show’s final season, who will play Kelli, “a network sitcom star who decides to enter the burgeoning fitness industry.”

“With this final season, Sheila’s three act saga of rebellion, recovery, and redemption comes to the satisfying conclusion that she and her fans so richly deserve. We feel so proud to share this last chapter with everyone,” their statement continued.
“Over the course of three enthralling seasons of Physical, we have been honored to work with Annie Weisman and Tomorrow Studios to bring Sheila Rubin’s journey of transformation and personal empowerment to the screen through Rose Byrne’s fearless, moving and often very funny, portrayal,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+.
“We are aware of just how much of an impact this character and story has had on audiences around the world and can’t wait for them to join us on this final exhilarating ride that culminates in an immensely rewarding finale for this celebrated series,” Cherniss’ statement continued.
Tomorrow Studios (an ITV Studios partnership) produces Physical. Weisman also serves as the showrunner on the show.
Physical is directed by Stephanie Laing, who also serves as executive producer alongside Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Alissa Bachner for Tomorrow Studios, and Byrne.
