On the episode, Ben leaps into the body of a naval officer on an American battleship during war games in 1989. Routh plays Ben’s commanding officer, Alexander Augustine, who Ben has to work with during a risky rescue mission.

Adding to the drama is the fact that Augustine is not only Ben’s commanding officer but also Addison’s father.
This is the most personal connection Ben or anyone on the team has had to any of Ben’s missions so far. It opens up the possibility for all sorts of exciting directions for the episode to go in.
First, “S.O.S.” will obviously be an Addison-centric episode. Despite being a central character, we don’t know much about Addison beyond her relationship with Ben and her military background. Learning more about her backstory and what made her who she is, is definitely something to look forward to.
However, having such a personal connection with the mission creates a lot of complications, too. First, there is the potential that Addison’s emotional investment in the mission will affect her judgment.
It also puts her in a vulnerable position with Ben and the rest of the team since it will reveal things about her family that she may not be ready to share or doesn’t even know herself. Because of all that, viewers can also expect this to be a significant episode for Ben and Addison’s relationship.
Perhaps most dramatically, Ben is potentially changing Addison’s history and memories. Will that change Addison in the present? Will it change the path that led her to become part of the Quantum Leap team or fall in love with Ben?
It all adds up to what will no doubt be a jam-packed episode with some potentially consequential ramifications for the rest of the season.
