Riverdale’s 1950s-Set Season 7 Gains Nicholas Barasch and Karl Walcott in Recurring Roles

Cheryl Blossom has a new twin brother and Kevin Keller meets someone new on Riverdale‘s 1950s-set seventh and final season.

Deadline exclusively reported that Nicholas Barasch and Karl Walcott would join Season 7 in “major recurring roles.”

Barasch will play the “preppy, rich, and extremely entitled” Julien Blossom, Cheryl’s twin brother, described as “your classic high school red-headed bully.”

“Handsome, athletic, and cocky, he always gets his way, but in the rare times he doesn’t—like with Veronica—he makes life miserable for everyone around him. He often butts heads with his twin sister but is also an antagonist to all of our teen characters, most especially Archie,” the synopsis for Julien reads.

Originally, before Riverdale survived Bailey’s comet that catapulted the main cast back to high school in the 1950s, Cheryl’s twin brother was Jason Blossom, played by Trevor Stines.

Now, Barasch takes the reins of the new character on Riverdale‘s final season. TV Line notes that Riverdale Season 4 reveals that Cheryl and Jason “had a triplet brother named Julian who was supposedly absorbed in the womb.”

Per Deadline’s report, Walcott will portray the “teen renaissance man,” Clay Walker. Clay is described as “studious, artistic, well-read, and well-traveled.”

“An Army brat, Clay comes from a loving family and is a champion for social justice. He is very open-minded in his art and his sexuality. As he does in the comic books, Clay will have an impactful friendship with fellow queer character Kevin Keller,” Clay’s character synopsis continues.

Julien and Clay will join Riverdale, based on the characters from Archie Comics, when it returns on Sunday, March 20, at 8/7c on The CW.  Season 7 was initially scheduled to premiere on Sunday, March 6.

Riverdale received an early renewal for Season 7 in March of this year. By the time the network announced its 2022/2023 programming, The CW had revealed that its seventh season would be the show’s last and would premiere in the midseason slate.

Last week, Entertainment Weekly unveiled a first look at the 1950s-set final season. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa spoke about the characters’ new setting.

“Thank god the ’50s were as crazy as they were, because it’s been so fun to be in that world,” Aguirre-Sacasa said.

“Every season we explore the tropes of a specific genre, be it supernatural, be it pulp, be it crime. This year our genre is the 1950s, so we’re in dialogue with the American myth of what the 1950s were versus the reality,” Aguirre-Sacasa added.

The same day, Aguirre-Sacasa posted a sneak peek of the Season 7 premiere on Instagram. So, even though the seventh season is Riverdale‘s last, this show still has plenty of twists and turns up its sleeve.

Riverdale Season 7 premieres on Sunday, March 20, at 8/7c on The CW.
