Viewers get a peek into Eileen’s past on Alaska Daily Season 1 Episode 5, “I Have No Idea What You’re Talking about, Eileen.”
For the first time since the premiere, viewers will learn more about Eileen’s life before she joined the Daily staff when someone from her past makes an appearance. None of the preview materials give much of a hint as to who this person is or how Eileen feels about them.
The episode description, however, implies that this mystery person’s arrival is connected to Eileen’s decision to go against orders. It seems safe to assume that facing whatever part of her past this person represents stirs some emotions for Eileen.
It even threatens her relationship with Stanely, who, until this point, had been Eileen’s strongest defender.
When Eileen and Roz appear to have their first potential suspect, Eileen’s instinct — per usual — is to go all in while Stanely orders caution.
Unsurprisingly, Eileen does what she thinks is best rather than listening to her editor. This isn’t the first time Eileen has done this but based on the promo, it may be the first time it provokes a genuine conflict between her and Stanely.
Elsewhere on the episode, Jieun and Austin work on a story together. Perhaps that means more progress on that burgeoning ship?

The most recent episode did a major disservice to our government and constitution. The villainous Sec. of Defense appeared on a USAF base in the full uniform of an army general. It is a fact the Sec. of Def. is CIVILIAN cabinet member. In fact a waiver was required for the current secretary because he had not been separated from military service for the legally required time. How and why the writers misrepresented this is beyond me.
