Little Demon Season 1 Episode 9 Review: Wet Bodies

Reviews

Little Demon Season 1 Episode 9, “Wet Bodies,” charts the growth of Chrissy and Laura as they spend time apart from each other. It fosters plenty of development for both characters in new and exciting ways.

“Wet Bodies” delves into the importance of personal boundaries. That’s a significant theme throughout this season of Little Demon as Laura struggles to give Chrissy the space she needs to grow. Of course, there’s the unspoken fear in the back of Laura’s mind that her Antichrist daughter will morph into Satan if the latter spends too much time with him.

CHRISSY: I knew you would turn on me and leave me stranded in a tsunami!

However, part of adolescence is figuring out who you are in this wide, wide world. Chrissy’s burgeoning demonic powers are a metaphor for puberty, right? If there’s one thing teenagers need, it’s space. After spending nearly every second of her adult life protecting Chrissy, Laura’s hyper-vigilance gets the best of her.

“Wet Bodies” finally allows our leads to blossom on their own, with Chrissy realizing she can kick ass without her parents and Laura finding love under the sea. It was never explicitly stated that Laura is bisexual, and her fling with the Sea Hag is as steamy as it is surprisingly heartwarming. Bisexual rights, y’all!

We get to see Laura let loose for the first time. Truly, wholeheartedly blow off steam. The Sea Hag reminds her that it’s okay to relax. Chrissy will forge her own path and return home when the desire strikes her. It’s challenging for parents, especially “helicopter parents,” to know when not to cross their child’s boundaries.

DARLENE: If you don’t respect her boundaries just this once, you might lose her forever.

For Laura, there was always a substantial, high-stakes threat looming in the periphery of her and her daughter’s life. Part of growing up is letting your child grow

Unfortunately, when Chrissy’s in danger, neither Laura nor Satan answers her calls. We’ll undoubtedly see the ramifications in the season finale, especially with Chrissy, Bennigan, and his family being held captive by the Unshaven Man. After Chrissy pushes her parents away, will they come to save her this time?

“Wet Bodies” takes us on a fantastical, world-bending adventure that presents vital life lessons while dressed in sardonic one-liners, sharp, acerbic wit, and emotional depth swimming beneath the surface.

LAURA: Great! I’d rather hang myself by my labia!

This outing presents the most character development we’ve seen thus far. Here’s hoping it all pays off in the season finale.

Stray Observations:

  • “The Sh*t Wives of Myrtle Beach” sounds wild, and it needs to be a real TV show.
  • It’s the return of Unshaven Man! Will he try to kill Chrissy in next week’s season finale? Only time will tell.
  • Little Demon really said, “Bisexual rights,” and we love them for that.
  • Pamela Adlon is always an excellent addition to any voice cast, and she fits the role of Sea Hag perfectly (that’s a compliment). Speaking of great casting — Rhea Perlman for the win!
  • Chrissy’s “Khaleesi” moment is pretty epic, even if it’s with a cockatrice.
