Ben’s second jump is out of this world on QuantumLeap Season 1 Episode 2, “Atlantis.”
After saving the Hope Diamond and the life of a would-be thief in over his head on Quantum Leap Season 1 Episode 1, “July 13th, 1985,” Ben finds himself in the body of an astronaut about to be launched into space.

At the end of “July 13th, 1984,” Ben is understandably panicked when he realizes he’s on a rocket. He is a physicist, after all, not an astronaut. As far as he knows, Addison has disappeared forever, and he is entirely on his own.
Being a little freaked out is pretty understandable. The Quantum Accelerator isn’t giving Ben much chance to ease into his new reality.
It’s throwing him right into the deep end. He will have to get a handle on things pretty quickly if he has any chance of survival.
Luckily for Ben, Addison makes contact. Ben’s panic then turns into excitement — at least briefly — about getting to go to space. Beyond that, there isn’t too much to take away from the preview material about why Ben has been sent to this particular time and location.
Elsewhere on the episode, Addison confides in Ian about something she discovered. The discovery referred to in the episode description is almost certainly the message Ben left her before he made his fateful leap.
Janis Calavicci also makes an appearance on “Atlantis.” As we learned on “July 13th, 1985,” Janis is Al Calavicci’s (from the original series) daughter. She is part of Ben’s decision to make the unsanctioned leap that got him stuck and wiped his memory.
Her appearance on the episode indicates we’ll also be getting some clues as to why Ben decided to use the machine to leap despite knowing it wasn’t ready.
What do you think Janis’s involvement is? Do you think she will turn out to be a friend or foe?
