Dynasty, Reviews

Dynasty Season 5 Episode 19, “But a Drug Scandal?” is a fun-spirited hour that ends with thrilling results.

While there are a few hiccups, this episode provides plenty of comedic elements to keep the audience’s attention. Even in its profound moments, the quick quips and remarks stand out and command response.

We follow Fallon as she works to better the Heroic Hooves foundation after finding out it’s in trouble of shutting down. Thanks to Patty De Vilbis’ departure, regular donations aren’t enough to keep the foundation afloat.

Fallon was unaware that Patty single-handedly kept the foundation alive with her father’s money. So, she puts her current plans for expansion to the side and comes up with a great idea: a bachelor auction!

But that feat turns out to be a challenge thanks to one of the board members trying to sabotage Fallon at every turn; Mandy Von Dunkel.

Mandy wants nothing to do with Fallon and would prefer her nowhere near the foundation. With Patty out of the picture, Mandy sees the perfect window of opportunity to snatch the crown and return the foundation to its traditional ways.

Nevertheless, in natural Fallon Carrington fashion, she does what she does best and creates an impromptu fundraiser that knocks it out of the park. Well, with a little bit of help from Jeff.

The final moment, though, is what excites me the most. Adam has spent the entire season doing as he pleases and getting away with it.

If the series is smart, Adam’s arrest will be just a taste of what’s to come for him. There’s no chance in the world that we’ll ever get a satisfactory ending for Steven, but this could make up for it.

If the series isn’t trying to cop us out and resolve things by the next episodes, I can suffice with Adam’s defamation and destruction.

The icing on top of the cake for the scenario is the conclusion that comes from Alexis. After being deceived and pushed by Adam one too many times, she’s finally come to her wit’s end with him. It’s a relieving moment because for so long, Alexis has helped Adam hide his sins and validated his actions.

Now, we need Alexis to stick to her guns and start naming off crimes, starting with him burning her off in a fireplace. Then, just maybe, they’ll decide to do a full investigation into Adam and reveal the part he played in Steven’s hospitalization.

Elsewhere, Liam does exactly as I feared; he succumbs to the pressure and submits Kingston’s book as his own. Even after talking with Sam and being told that it isn’t an intelligent move!

I suppose you could say that Liam’s predicament is relatable for those greedy enough to do whatever it takes to reach fame. But in the long run, it only ruins Liam’s character and defies all of his morals.

If Liam goes through with the publication, he at least tells Fallon the truth. He’s so afraid of her thinking he’s lost his spark, but it’ll eat away at him eventually unless her.

It’s upsetting because it’s clear this new side to Liam was meant to be an upgrade to his storyline for Season 6, and their cancellation ruined what was supposed to come of it. Now we’re potentially leaving the series and seeing the worst side of Liam.

To top it all off, Dynasty is one of the worst series I’ve seen regarding breaks within a season. After only airing two back-to-back episodes from a previous month’s hiatus, we’re seeing another two-week break.

If we’re lucky, these consistent breaks mean the series is potentially working to reshoot the ending and give fans a proper goodbye.

Stray Thoughts:

  • Dominique’s newfound fame storyline is fun and provides the right amount of suspense and laughter. I hope we continue to see it in full effect in the next episode.
  • Nina and Culhane are too adorable as a couple.
  • Blake helping Adam attempt to evade the FDA is absurd, and I hope they go after him for helping switch the samples out.

  • I agree with everything you’ve said. For starters, I’m really starting to lose interest in this show because of the random, ridiculously long breaks in between episodes. Also, Adam poisoned Fallon’s surrogate, right? How sickening is that. I hope justice is finally served in the remaining episodes we get.
