Tom Swift Review: …And The Chocolate Cowboys (Season 1 Episode 4)
The gang continues to search for more pieces of Barton’s capsule, but the mysteries keep piling up. On Tom Swift Season 1 Episode 4, “…And The Chocolate Cowboys” we find our merry band of misfits doing their best to survive in uncomfortable situations.
Tom has to really use his compassion and his human side against some cowboys who want his “machine.” While Isaac fights against himself to keep Zenzi safe from harm on her date with Eskol.
Both teams are showing us sides of themselves we haven’t had the chance to meet yet which makes for a very compelling hour.
Tom Swift vs. Barton Swift

The big internal battle for Tom this whole time has been his thirst to prove himself to his father. It’s definitely leading him to make some questionable decisions — like trying to handle everything at the summit.
Thankfully, the writers give us a bone with “…And The Chocolate Cowboys” by forcing Tom to slow down and see the world from a different perspective. Sure, it takes most of the episode to get him there, but the growth is the selling point regardless.
He’s not one to really take the time to stop and listen to what others have to suggest. So, for Tom to actually listen to Lino’s concerns and views is huge!
This shows us and his team that Tom is capable of sincerity as well as compassion. Tom is his father’s son, but not in a way that hinders him from taking Swift Enterprises into the future.
I just hope that when or if Barton is found he can see just how much Tom is growing as a leader, a man, and a friend.
Isaac vs. His Past

Prior to this episode very little is known about Isaac. So, it’s refreshing to dig deeper into this phenomenal friend and protector.
The Swift family isn’t Isaac’s first assignment, but he never talks about it. Now we know why and honestly it makes us want to wrap that man in the biggest of hugs.
Up until this point, Isaac has presented as a fearless, strong, and reliable protector. Only now we know that given the right elements, his past can stop him in his tracks.
It’s clear he’s suffering from PTSD and Tom Swift honestly does a fantastic job of addressing that without allowing it to completely take over who he is. It’s a relief to see that this man actually does have some very human shortcomings because it makes us gravitate toward him more.
Eskol’s Plot

First and foremost it makes me extremely angry that Eskol is this “back to the basics” extremist because he actually has some truth bombs this episode. What he says about American history and society are very much true.
It’s a shame he’s a world class twat because his date with Zenzi almost has us convinced to root for him. But, I guess that’s also a message in itself — don’t trust the charming white savior.
On paper, Eskol and The Road Back’s plan makes complete sense and I too could see myself getting behind it. Unfortunately, there’s also the murder element to contend with.
Instead of going after the tech — like any sane person would do — this group is going after the people behind the tech. It has me worried for Tom tremendously because he’s not one to shy away from the attention of other’s.
That’s just it though, Tom Swift continues to do a great job of catching us off our guard about certain characters which make us question our morals. Knowing nothing else about Eskol could’ve had us rooting for him — almost.
Too bad we still don’t know what is up with those fancy invites from Tom Swift Season 1 Episode 3, “…And Nine Inches of Danger.”
Stray Thoughts:
- Great to see Tom and Lino FINALLY have a heart to heart — it’s been coming.
- Does Zenzi ever go anywhere without slaying on every level? I sure hope not!
- Tom Swift truly has an outfit for EVERY occasion.
