Mädchen Amick on Whether She’ll Direct More ‘Riverdale’ Episodes [Interview]

When we spoke with Mädchen Amick on the Riverdale red carpet at PaleyFest, we had one serious question on our minds: What exactly is going on between Alice and Frank?

The show has been ambiguous in defining the pair’s relationship this season, but Amick was able to give us the scoop.

“They’re friends with benefits,” she revealed.

These two may not have an epic romance, but it’s certainly fun to watch Amick’s character Alice have some fun being flirtatious after having faced so much loss.

We were also curious if the Twin Peaks actress had any plans to get back behind the Riverdale camera, after directing two previous episodes of the show.

Amick first directed the impromptu Riverdale Season 4 finale, “Chapter Seventy-Six: Killing Mr. Honey.” She then got back in the director’s chair for Riverdale Season 5 Episode 14, “Chapter Ninety: The Night Gallery.”

Both episodes quickly became fan favorites. With an overwhelmingly positive response to Amick’s directorial choices and instincts, audiences have been anxiously awaiting when news of another “directed by Mädchen Amick” title screen may appear.   

We couldn’t get a definitive confirmation from Amick about when that might be, but she was cautiously optimistic she’ll direct at least one more episode of Riverdale before it ends. 

For now, she’s in post-production for her newest film, Reminisce.

“I hope [I’ll direct]! I did a feature film this last summer called Reminisce, and I’m in the last stages of post, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to direct Season 6 — maybe — but hopefully in Season 7!”
