‘Starstruck’ Season 2 Trailer and Release Date Announced by HBO Max

News

HBO Max’s hit romantic-comedy series Starstruck returns for its anticipated second season this month!

We can see the next chapter of Jessie and Tom’s love story on Thursday, March 24. All six episodes of Season 2 will debut on the streaming service simultaneously.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect since Netflix’s romance series Bridgerton returns the following day. The romance genre as a whole and romantic comedies are seeing a resurgence on the small screen, and Starstruck is a part of that comeback story.

This gem of a feel-good show has all the touchstones of classic romantic comedies while making space for itself as a new addition to the genre. For example, Jessie (Rose Matafeo) pulls a card from the well-known rom-com deck at the end of Season 1 when she makes a grand gesture to stay with Tom (Nikesh Patel).

In Season 2, Jessie will deal with the real-world consequences of deciding to stay and pursue a relationship with Tom rather than returning home to New Zealand.

The trailer sees those effects in full force as Jessie crosses paths with an old “friend” who could cause problems for her new relationship with Tom. Not to mention, Tom struggles to tell his friends about Jessie, leading to all of the expected issues. That kind of drama could break, test, or strengthen Jessie and Tom’s romance.

We have to wait a bit longer to see how it all plays out. Until then, we can laugh-out-loud at Jessie and Tom’s top-notch banter and swoon because of their excellent chemistry. There’s no denying Starstruck has all the best elements of rom-coms!

The scene in the trailer where Jessie pretends to stage a fight for The Daily Mail and Tom starts snapping photos to send in himself is too perfect. Beyond that, the dialogue showcased in the trailer is as funny and whip-smart as ever.

The Season 2 ensemble cast includes Minnie Driver, Russell Tovey, Emma Sidi, Joe Barnes, Al Roberts, Ambreen Razia, Alice Snedden, Lola-Rose Maxwell, Nic Sampson, Edward Easton, Parth Thakerar, and Jordan Stephens.

The Max Original series comes from comedian Rose Matafeo and co-writers Alice Snedden and Nic Sampson. It’s produced by Avalon and executive produced by Rose Matafeo, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, and Toby Welch. Claire McCarthy is a series producer. Starstruck Season 1 is currently streaming on HBO Max.
