Skylar Astin Joins ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18 in Recurring Role

Skylar Astin will join Grey’s Anatomy in a recurring role later this season. He will visit Grey Sloan Memorial, but he won’t be playing a patient.

Astin (who recently starred on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) will begin his arc on the long-running medical drama on the Grey’s Anatomy episode titled “Put the Squeeze on Me,” airing March 24, Variety exclusively reported.

Variety relays from ABC representatives that Astin will play Todd Eames. ABC’s logline describes Todd as “Charming and handsome with a gentle soul, Eames holds a PhD in environmental sciences and loves a good spreadsheet. He is close with his sister, who is a pregnant patient at Grey Sloan Memorial.”

Todd sounds like a good guy, and Astin’s background in comedy begs the question of whether Todd will bring a comedic edge to his scenes with Jo Wilson. Without the photo confirming, it’s practical to conclude that Astin and Camilla Luddington would share scenes since Jo is in the pediatrics department now.

Moreover, there’s an opportunity for Todd to spend time with Jo since Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 Episode 9, “No Time to Die,” poises Cormac Hayes’ exit from that very department.

There’s also the chance that Todd’s sister may call for Station 19‘s Carina DeLuca-Bishop and Jo to work together — sparking another crossover between the series. But, that’s all speculation until more is revealed about Todd’s sister’s time at the hospital, and there is no word on who will be playing that role.

Could the show set up a romance between Jo and Todd? Of course, there’s always a possibility, and Astin’s recurring role suggests he’ll be around long enough to form at least temporary connections. 

Only time will tell what this may mean for Jo, Link, and the new phase of their friendship. Plus, all of this could lead to a cliffhanger for Grey’s Anatomy‘s already-confirmed Season 19.
