Home Economics Review: Workout Leggings (Season 2 Episode 17)
On Home Economics Season 2 Episode 17, “Workout Leggings,” Connor becomes a physical trainer for Denise and Marina while Sarah and Tom team up for a writing collab that also becomes physical.
It’s a natural fit to see Connor in the role of fitness guru to other members of the fam. It is so not natural for literally anyone to ask Tom for writing advice. These are the two set-ups for the episodes storylines, and in both we see that Connor and Tom are good in their roles.
But that doesn’t make them any less annoying.
Connor: We’re gonna turn those forearms into five arms.
Denise: This is going to be fun!
Connor: Not if we do it right, it’s not! It’s a workout not a fun-out.

The ladies soon find this out when Connor starts horning in on Denise and Marina’s “Normals” time and Tom’s writing quirks begin to enrage Sarah.
Tom: It might go faster if you let me get through all my notes first. Okay, page one. Do we need page one?
They are all trying their best, though. I’ll give them that.
Home Economics has proved to be great at comedic dialogue, one-liners, and zingers, and on this episode it shows off its physical comedy prowess as well. Marina running away with the resistance band around her knees is hilarious. As is when Connor surprises them vegging out on their yoga mats and they try to cover their deception.
Although Sarah and Tom do get physical, it’s their quick, back-and-forth sibling banter that is one of the highlights.
Sarah: Amelia Earhart, she was as bi as her plane.
Tom: Do you have any evidence that that was even true.
Sarah: She was in an open marriage. Read between the lines.
Tom: I don’t think she flew a bi-plane.
Sarah: She wore pants, Tom! Wake up!

The situations themselves are funny, and the resolutions are, too, with some added heart and warm fuzzies. Home Economics truly is a comfort show.
Tom and Sarah tap into creative magic and co-write what sounds like a phenomenal school musical—their brother-sister bond is able to survive the personal digs and tickle fights.
Although, I don’t think they’ll be teaming up again any time soon.
Connor: You know what, the heart is a muscle, too, and you just tore mine.
Denise and Marina apologize to him for cheating on him at Simon’s Boot Camp, and they make their own honorary Normals club for the three of them called the Ab-Normals, “cause we’re gonna get sick abs soon.”

It’s a perfect wrap-up to the plot and it looks as though Denise and Sarah may have found a sperm donor in the process—Simon seems like an ideal candidate.
