The Cleaning Lady Review: Our Father, Who Art in Vegas (Season 1 Episode 7)

Reviews, The Cleaning Lady

On The Cleaning Lady Season 1 Episode 7, “Our Father, Who Art in Vegas,” we get a proper meeting with Marco and a better look at Arman’s marriage.

This episode plateaus any relationship building between Thony and Arman, given that both of their spouses are once again present in their lives.

Nadia never really left, but Marco has been gone for months, and as soon as he finds out what’s going on, it becomes clear that he’s a mirror for Thony. Marco simply gives in where Thony would do anything to save her child.

If nothing else, The Cleaning Lady is doing a fantastic job of reminding its audience that ACAB can be said about every law enforcement agency, not just local cops.

Garrett commits several crimes while visiting Arman’s farm, tells his boss about it, and is rewarded with dinner. ASAC Katherine Russo, I had such high hopes for you.

I am not a lawyer, nor am I a judge, but If Garrett does arrest and charge Arman in the end, will any of it stick? Half of the information he’s come by illegally, and the other half has come from threatening an undocumented immigrant.

Time will tell, I suppose.

Being completely transparent with my overall feelings on Garrett, I would rather watch a normally-timed cleaning sequence than watch Garrett become romantically involved with anyone.

I don’t want to watch him on dates or flirting with former partners. I don’t even want to see him as a father to humanize him.

Background on characters is essential, but with Garrett, I find myself unable to care about anything he does that doesn’t directly relate to Thony being on screen.

In evaluating how I feel about Marco, I have to take a step back from the final scene in “Our Father, Who Art in Vegas” and start from the beginning.

As soon as Thony tells Marco about where her money really comes from, he has one thought in his mind, and there’s no getting rid of it, “My wife is cheating on me.”

While not entirely untrue (sorry, Thony), his jealousy and rage get the best of him and very nearly stand in the way of Luca getting the surgery he needs.

Thony has proven time and time again that she will do almost anything to save Luca with zero complaints.

Marco finds out another man could be paying for Luca’s life-saving surgery and loses it. He learns that Arman is a criminal, and he still turns up to the club, putting himself and Thony in immeasurable danger if Arman and Thony weren’t as close as they are.

At one point, in an argument with Fiona — who is the last person Marco should be mad at — he states that Thony had the money to get him to the US and uses that to discount his wife’s progress with Luca.

Sure, Thony, undocumented and picked up once before, could’ve sent thousands of dollars to Marco, but she didn’t because she knew it would be a red flag.

There may be a little bit of it where Thony didn’t want Marco in the states, but she’s smart with the money she makes for the most part. Marco, however…

Addiction is a disease. There is no direct fault in the matter right now, but Marco taking the money intended for his son’s surgery and gambling it at a local casino is next-level Needs Rehab Now Please.

Hopefully, he’ll have made some profit on the next episode, but I fear this can only be heading downhill.

With only a few episodes left before the finale, the question of Marco and Thony’s status as married and Luca’s status as alive are in limbo. Fingers crossed for divorce and survival.

Stray Thoughts:
  • Karaoke moments usually are pretty brutal, but with a slow song? At Christmas? Please, never again.
  • “You’re okay with a criminal paying for our son?” I just know Marco would lose his mind if they had to get a liver transfer from a former criminal. I kind of want that to happen now.
  • The pandemic is apparently a thing on The Cleaning Lady, which is something that could’ve easily been left out and forgotten forever.
  • Arman is in looooooove.
