Outlander Season 6 Starz Developing an ‘Outlander’ Prequel Series

Starz Developing an ‘Outlander’ Prequel Series

News, Outlander

The end of another Draughtlander isn’t the only thing we have to celebrate. According to Variety, an Outlander prequel series is in the works at Starz.

Matthew B. Roberts, executive producer and showrunner of Outlander, is attached to the project.

Roberts will write and executive produce the prequel, with a hunt to fill the writers’ room currently underway. The hope is to begin working on the project in the coming weeks.

Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore, who originally developed the Outlander series for television, will also executive produce.

It’s unclear who the prequel will follow at this time, with most details about production still under wraps.

As for what source material the prequel series could follow, the historical time-travelling series has plenty of characters and periods to choose from.

Many fans have hoped for a Lord John Grey spin-off that would follow an adaptation of his solo series. However, those events coincide with Outlander‘s “Voyager” storyline, so a prequel is unlikely.

Diana Gabaldon, author of the bestselling books, confirmed she still intends to work on a prequel that would follow Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, the parents of Jamie Fraser. Gabaldon has also published “Virgins,” a prequel novella set in the 1740s that focuses on a younger Jamie Fraser and Ian Murray.

Outlander will return to Starz on March 6th with Season 6, and an early renewal ensures Season 7 will follow.
