After a two-year-long wait, the second season of cozy Netflix drama Sweet Magnolias officially arrives on Netflix this week, and given, well, generally everything going on in the world around us right now, its sweet story of friendship and family is not a moment too soon.
Based on the books by author Sherryl Woods, Sweet Magnoliasfollows the story of Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue, three childhood best friends who grew up together in the idyllic small town of Serenity, South Carolina — a town where everybody knows everyone else and it feels very much like a Southern version of Gilmore Girls‘ Stars Hollow.
The biggest question fans are likely chomping at the bit for answers to is the identity of the second person in the car crash with Kyle — as well as the medical status of both individuals, as this particular event was not from Woods’ books.
But, there are multiple questions from last season left to be resolved, such as the status of Maddie and Bill’s relationship, whether Dana Sue is Isaac’s birth mother, and Helen’s newfound determination to have a child whether or not she has a man in her life.
But if the Season 2 trailer is anything to go by, there are plenty more surprises in store for us in Sweet Magnolias’ ten-episode second season. And maybe even some problems that even Margarita Night can’t solve.
