CSI: Vegas Review: Under the Skin (Season 1 Episode 3)
On CSI: Vegas Season 1 Episode 3, “Under the Skin,” we get to see firsthand how terrifying 3D printing technology really is, and the investigators take a hard blow in regards to David Hodges’ case.
We’ve all seen the creepy robot dog shenanigans going on at Boston Dynamics, but a 3D printed murder weapon? Maybe our parents are right about technology.
What’s arguably worse than the weapon, is that our killer prints out a mask of someone else’s face wears it, and commits a crime. The killer becomes a walking deep fake. And deep fakes are already frightening!
Shocking to absolutely no woman ever, a female video game creator is killed by a man who thought he deserved to be in her position. Sigh.

Most of “Under the Skin” features Allie and Folsom working together. Sara and Grissom work with Roby occasionally, but with Sara and Grissom still considered outsiders, the group feels a tad small.
There are only a select few people scenes can go to, and though it’s obvious that Allie, Folsom, and Roby are the centers of the show, they’re almost missing something.
Something that, unfortunately, Hugo doesn’t quite have.
It doesn’t help that Grissom starts feeling land sick, which is never good when you’re planning to be on land for a while. I’m wondering if this isn’t hinting at Sara and Grissom being gone by the start of next season if there is one.

The directing in this episode is, as per usual, very enjoyable. There’s just a small hint of nostalgia that doesn’t overshadow the new, exciting information and technology we’re using today.
I can’t pretend to know why Grissom and Sara didn’t spot the door to Hodges nursery before, and I also can’t pretend to care about Hodges’ wife anymore.
She’s sweet, sure, but nine times out of ten I’m waiting for any scene with her to end.
I love Sara Sidle with my whole heart, but if I have to hear them talk about that poor dead dog one more time, I’m going to lose it. Have they even told the owner that they found his dog? Or is he still putting “lost dog” posters up?

A lot of fun to be had in this 2021 episode of CSI: Vegas where they fully use 2021 technology to commit a murder! Not at all terrifying.
Stray Thoughts:
- *Bernie Sanders voice* I am once again asking why Allie is engaged to someone who isn’t Joshua Folsom.
- I miss Chris Park so much.
- Sara telling Grissom “if you need something to hold onto, hold onto me” is about to make me rewatch the entirety of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
- Is Joshua Folsom a himbo? Let’s discuss.
