‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Premieres in October
  • Fans have been begging for more Janeway for years, and they’re finally getting it in new animated series Star Trek: Prodigy, which is set to premiere Thursday, Oct. 28 on Paramount+.
  • The trailer reveals Janeway’s hologram with the crew of teenage aliens who have taken an abandoned starship out into the Delta Quadrant.
  • In addition to Kate Mulgrew, the voice cast includes Jason Mantzoukas and Dee Bradley Baker. At San Diego Comic-Con, Mulgrew spoke about returning to play Kathryn Janeway.
  • “She’s Janeway at her best. She’s there to help this motley crew… get this defunct ship working. And she does,” she said. “She is the essential Captain Janeway. She’s full of, I think, warmth. She’s going to help these kids. She’s determined to help them get off this very, very dangerous and dark planet and into a much better place. A different galaxy. So she brings to bear on this task all of her skills and most of them are deeply human.”
  • Star Trek: Prodigy premieres Thursday, Oct. 28 on Paramount+. It will also air on Nickelodeon at a later date.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Cast Announcement Includes Legacy Characters
  • Like all new Star Trek series, the news on Strange New Worlds has been very secretive, however, we finally get to meet the characters inhabiting this Enterprise, and it includes some familiar names.
  • Joining Anson Mount as Capt. Christopher Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, and Rebecca Romijn as Una/Number One, are Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga, Bruce Horak as Hemmer, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, and Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas.
  • As a quick reminder of the timeline, Pike is the captain of the Enterprise before Kirk, so we expected to see a few recognizable names, but featuring Uhura and Chapel really helps connect Strange New Worlds to the larger Star Trek universe.
  • It was also announced that Strange New Worlds would have a format similar to that of Star Trek: The Original Series, where each episode is a fully contained story.
