Gossip Girl Lands Season 2 Renewal on HBO Max

Gossip Girl, News

If anyone was wondering whether there’s still interest in a series like Gossip GirlHBO Max’s reboot proves there is. In fact, the show did so well that it was renewed for Season 2 — and the latter half of Season 1 hasn’t even dropped yet.

Deadline first reported the news, noting that Gossip Girl was the most-watched HBO Max original series following the weekend it premiered.

The reboot broke records during its first four days on the platform, drawing attention from 555,000 U.S. households.

The renewal notice comes ahead of Gossip Girl’s return in November, when it will round out its first season with six more episodes.

Gossip Girl Season 2 has a strong foundation to build on

The first half of Season 1 introduced New York City’s new group of Upper East Siders, introducing a new group of Upper East Siders as they navigate the drama that comes with being in the spotlight.

The central focus of the new series builds on tensions between half-sisters Julien Calloway (Jordan Alexander) and Zoya Lott (Whitney Peak), which were just heating up when the midseason finale came to a close.

HBO Max’s Gossip Girl stands to really find its footing with November’s slate of episodes. With a second season, showrunner Joshua Safran has a longer runway to expand upon the new story.

The original CW series, set nine years before the reboot, ran for six seasons before taking its final bow in 2012. This new iteration could see an equally long run, especially with some of the twists and social commentary it’s weaved in.

In addition to Alexander and Peak, the reboot stars Eli Brown, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Savannah Lee Smith, Tavi Gevinson, Thomas Doherty, and Zion Moreno. Adam Chanler-Berat, Jason Gotay, Johnathan Fernandez, and Todd Almond round out the main cast.

Kristen Bell also returned as the omnipresent narrator of the series, adding a bit of familiarity to the new iteration. HBO Max seems to be pushing a more modernized version of the story, but it’s kept some of its most critical elements in place.

What will Gossip Girl Season 2 be about?

It’s hard to guess exactly what Season 2 of Gossip Girl will cover. However, we’ll have a better idea of where things are headed when the rest of Season 1 drops later this year.

The early episodes of the new reboot set up everything from love triangles to school rivalries, all while putting a twist on the concept of Gossip Girl.

We do know one thing for sure: We can expect plenty of scheming, both among the students and the teachers of Constance Billard and St. Jude’s.

Longtime fans wouldn’t expect anything less from the follow-up to Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) and Serena Van Der Woodsen’s (Blake Lively) story.

Gossip Girl Season 1 returns to HBO Max this November. The streamer hasn’t announced an official release date as of yet.
