Dynasty Review: Equal Justice for the Rich (Season 4 Episode 9)

Dynasty, Reviews

Kirby’s ex surprises her at La Mirage, Alexis and Dominque do a little soul searching, and Liam discovers the truth about his father’s past on Dynasty Season 4 Episode 9, “Equal Justice for the Rich.”

Could Blake be on the path of redemption after all these years? It says a lot about his personal character growth that Adam isn’t currently in a grave after revealing his involvement in Blake’s downfall.

It’s been made apparent in my latest reviews of the season that I don’t care for Adam, and that will never change. However, I’m intrigued to start paying attention to Blake again now that there are signs of change.

Naturally, his first thought is to destroy Adam, and truth be told, I would love to see that, but Anders saves the day by reminding him of everything he’s reacquired recently.

The proper punishment for Adam would be to have Kirby get back with Oliver, but that’s not a good situation for either party. Kirby hasn’t been around Oliver for forty-eight hours before he’s already offering her drugs in the bathroom, leading her down a road she’s been before.

Modeling would be an excellent gig for Kirby if she wasn’t so impressionable and easily manipulated. There should be some fear for Kirby behind this small moment because her track record of letting guys do as they wish is not good, especially for her. I dislike Adam with a passion, but I hope he or Sam catches on and gets rid of the trash quickly.

While I don’t enjoy Liam and Fallon fighting because they’re too cute of a couple to have that issue, I’m intrigued with Liam’s new storyline. Let’s face the facts, Liam hasn’t had his own distinct pathway on the show in a hot minute; he’s essentially been here to be Fallon’s rock. While I’m all for Liam being supportive of his wife, I’m looking for more from his character.

What’s going to be super upsetting is if Liam leaves and isn’t seen for a few episodes until he decides to return to the manor. The show revolves around Fallon, but switching the perspective for a few episodes to watch Liam do his own thing would not change the show’s flow.

Liam could be the main focus as fans watch him dig up dirt to gather the truth about his father’s death while Fallon is back home, worried for his safety. Or, better yet, a nice turn of events would be if Fallon got things together and joined him on his spy mission. That will more than likely never happen, but one can dream.

Liam doing his detective work could also have more to do with the season storyline than fans might think at this moment. One working theory I have is that the funeral being teased throughout the season could potentially be fake, considering Liam hasn’t been seen by Fallon’s side yet in the teasers. Adam is confirmed to be safe, but that’s it.

If Liam is dealing with hardcore criminals, faking his death to get off their radar would not be a wild assumption to make if they started to catch on to him.

Dominque and Alexis’ bonding hour is sweet, heart-warming, and a bit sad at the end as they both accept that they’re going to die in the mine until Jeff saves the day. There’s not much that I hope to gain from this interaction other than a mutual truce between the two and more information about Alexis’ daughter.

In the original Dynasty, Alexis had a daughter named Amanda, who turned out to be Blake’s daughter in the end, even though she lied and said that he was her ski instructor. In this version, Alexis claims that she had an affair with her yoga instructor while with Blake and gave the child to her family to raise.

With the mention of Alexis’ unnamed daughter, it’s only a matter of time until she shows her face, and I’m expecting it to be by the end of the season.

Jeff and Culhane fighting over Mia’s love is low-key cute because instead of throwing cheap shots and being dirty about it, they’re essentially helping each other’s dates out. But, it’s a blessing that the love triangle debacle between the three of them is extinguished just as fast as it started.

Neither Jeff nor Culhane need any form of extra drama in their life, but that doesn’t mean Mia shouldn’t stick around. Getting to watch Shannon Thornton on-screen during the ridiculously long wait for P-Valley Season 2 is a blessing, so I hope to see a different storyline emerge for her.

As for Cristal, of course, she has an inoperable brain tumor; what would this show be if she didn’t? It won’t be shocking if we see this Cristal pass away by the end of the season, just in time for a new one to pop up in Blake’s life for Season 5.

Hopefully, Cristal doesn’t bite the bullet, but it’s looking more and more like a possibility, unfortunately.
