Wynonna Earp Review: Love’s All Over (Season 4 Episode 7)

Reviews, Wynonna Earp

We’re finally back in Purgatory for the final stretch of adventures of Wynonna and company. Unfortunately, Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 7, “Love’s All Over,” is a letdown.

It’s set up to be a fun, chaotic episode full of love mishaps, but it doesn’t quite deliver. The jokes don’t land, and it all just feels like something we’ve seen before. Magic-induced love never works out, kids. It always ends in chaos.

Still, just because it’s something we’ve seen before doesn’t mean that couldn’t have been a hit. “Love’s All Over” could’ve been a fun escape from the sadness and pain from Wyndoc’s breakup, but it misses the mark. It’s not until a good bit into the hour that one of the pairings is unexpected and delightful (looking at you, Wynonna and Amon).

However, there are some comedic moments that come out of this Cupid-fiasco.

The close-ups of everyone, especially Waverly, when someone is falling in love with them are pretty great. It’s interesting seeing how people react to someone as they are falling into glitter-induced love. Waverly appears differently to Nicole, Bunny, and Amon, and it’s a small look into what each of them is needing or wanting right now, love-wise.

One of the reasons “Love’s All Over” feels like such a disappointment is because it’s the first episode we’ve had in months, and it’s kicking off the last six episodes of the show. It’s a lot of pressure to put on an episode, and “Love’s All Over” being a forgetful filler episode doesn’t help matters.

Maybe it would have been slightly more enjoyable if the stakes weren’t so high for it. Unfortunately, now we are left hoping that the remaining five episodes are as badass and wonderful as we’d love them to be.

And then, there’s the Clantons of it all.

They’re still here, in the form of Cleo, attempting to make us concerned about what’s to come. I hoped that with everyone else being dead that the Clantons wouldn’t be an issue anymore, but sadly that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Personally, I’m more intrigued by the garden and Eve, who is still missing in action. When Eve escaped the garden on Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 2, “Friends in Low Places,” it was expected that we would see her appear in Purgatory somewhat soon. But she’s still nowhere to be found, and I think it’s high time she made her presence known.

Maybe Cleo will start to be entertaining again, but for now, I’m not all that captivated. Are you?

Stray Thoughts
  • Waverly’s new lob looks amazing on her.
  • Rachel working with Nedley at Shortys could be a lot of fun.
  • Waverly and Nicole deserve a much better and more entertaining bachelorette.
  • Wynonna constantly threatening Amon with peacemaker every time they run into each other is amusing and so very Wynonna.
  • The mental image of Nicole in a suit is too much to handle.
  • Doc and Wynonna continue to be heartbreaking.
