Brooklyn Nine-Nine to End with Season 8

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, News

It’s a sad day for fans of the 99th precinct, as NBC has announced Brooklyn Nine-Nine will end with its eighth season.

A Deadline report states season eight of the comedy has been delayed longer than usual by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and the decision to rewrite episodes in the wake of protests over police violence against Black communities.

The show stars Andy Samberg as Detective Jake Peralta, one of the officers working out of the shenanigan filled 99th precinct in New York City.

He is joined by Andre Braugher, Joe Lo Truglio, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller.

“I’m so thankful to NBC and Universal Television for allowing us to give these characters and our fans the ending they deserve,” said executive producer Dan Goor. “When Mike Schur and I first pitched the pilot episode to Andy, he said, ‘I’m in, but I think the only way to tell this story is over exactly 153 episodes,’ which was crazy because that was exactly the number Mike and I had envisioned.

The 10-episode eighth season is being held until Fall, which means there will be no new episodes during the 2020-2021  TV season.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine began on Fox in 2013, where it ran for five seasons before being canceled in 2018. NBC then picked up the series, with Season 6 premiering in 2019.

When we left the squad in the Season 7 finale, everyone was celebrating the birth of Jake and Amy’s son, obviously named, McClane “Mac” Peralta.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with this amazing cast and crew for eight seasons. They are not only among the most talented people in the business, they are all good human beings who have become a family,” Goor said.

“But most of all, I feel lucky that we have had the best fans in the world. Fans who literally saved us from cancellation. Fans who fill us with joy,” he continued. “Ending the show was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honor the characters, the story, and our viewers. I know some people will be disappointed it’s ending so soon, but honestly, I’m grateful it lasted this long. Title of my sex tape.”
