Sarah Drew to Recur on Freeform’s ‘Cruel Summer’ From Producer Jessica Biel
Sarah Drew, who hung up her Grey’s Anatomy scrubs for good in 2018, is gearing up to break our hearts all over again.
As reported by Deadline, Drew will recur in the upcoming Freeform thriller/drama Cruel Summer (formally titled Last Summer) from producers Jessica Biel and eOne.
The story will take place over three summers from 1993-1995 in a small town in Texas. After the beautiful and popular Kate (Olivia Holt) is abducted, Jeanette (Chiara Aurelia) goes from being sweet and awkward to the new popular girl in school.

The two events seem unrelated, but are they? Maybe not, because by 1995, Jeanette is the most despised person in America. Episodes will shift from Kate to Jeanette’s point of view, so while viewers may already think they know where their loyalties lie… they don’t.
Drew will play Jeanette’s mother Cindy, who has the difficult job of holding her family and their reputation together as town gossip threatens to destroy it. She has a one-season arc.

Cruel Summer is Drew’s first TV series project to make it to air since leaving Grey’s Anatomy, though she starred in the original version on The Republic Of Sarah for CBS, which has since been re-worked as a brand new series to air on the CW in 2021.
You can catch Drew in the upcoming Hallmark Christmas movie Christmas In Vienna airing November 14 at 8/7c.
