Filthy Rich Review: Psalm 25:3 (Season 1 Episode 3)

Filthy Rich, Reviews

Ginger recites this episode’s titular scripture verse while making an appearance on “Wings of a Dove” on Filthy Rich Season 1 Episode 3, “Psalm 25:3.”

It reads as follows:

“No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.”

She’s right that it applies to her, but not where she wants it to. She recites it to emphasize that “no one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame.” But she needs to pay closer attention to the words, “shame will come to those who are treacherous without cause.”

I don’t like Ginger and the reason has nothing to do with her profession. She probably really has idolized Margaret as a child. She’s just never acts as such throughout the series so far. Her words are believable, but it’s hard to sympathize with her.

She’s smart and acting in the best interest of her business. She’s just not Margaret’s victim.

Melia Kreiling delivers a great monologue. But knowing that, watching Margaret help Ginger read scripture doesn’t change the fact that she knows what she’s doing when she wears a sheer dress to her baptism.

She doesn’t deserve to get a slushie thrown at her on live TV. But I believe that Betty sneaks on set and Margaret doesn’t know who she is.

It is low of Margaret to include hateful messages about Ginger in the fan mail segment. But assuming that Margaret knows what she’ll be reading, Ginger also knows what she signed up for.

It’s surprising that the two most sympathetic characters on the show are Margaret and Eugene’s biological children.

Or perhaps it makes sense when we really think about it. Eric and Rose are simply trying to maintain their normal lives. For them, that means being decent people.

They didn’t know their father’s true nature before Filthy Rich Season 1 Episode 1, “Pilot.” Plus, no one is directly threatening to take their piece of the Sunshine Network yet.

Poor Eric. Emotionally cheating on your pregnant wife with a webcam girl isn’t a good look, but he’s in a marriage more motivated by money than love.

And he has no idea what he’s in for when it comes to fixing the low-income housing that the Sunshine Network owns. Eugene and/or Reverand Paul probably keep the conditions poor to save money or act as saviors or both.

It’s safe to say that everyone other than Eric and Rose has an ulterior motive for being involved with the network. It’s starting to become hard to follow.

This episode drags through an hour of filming “Wings of A Dove.” The highlight is Margaret’s monologue screaming at Ginger about what it feels like to be a devoted wife living with a cheating husband.

Of course Margaret would never actually lose her cool on-camera, but Cattrall’s delivery is wonderful and it would’ve added spice to both “Wings Of A Dove” and  Filthy Rich if Margaret isn’t just screaming at Ginger in her head.

Plus, Eugene’s plot with Juliette Lewis’ character, also named Juliette, is confusing. It’s a waste of a very talented guest star.

However, if Eugene is headed to jail for stealing money, at least there’s a huge twist ahead. What’s going to happen when a celebrity who is presumed dead goes to the slammer? Is this all a dream that will end with Eugene waking up in a hospital bed?

One slow hour doesn’t quell our need for these answers.

Prayer Notes:

  • Apparently, Christian TV networks are extremely popular, but it’s hard to believe two stoners in Colorado would be watching on a random afternoon. Or that it would be on in a convenience store in the middle of nowhere.
  • Tina’s predicament is hard to follow. Is there a hit on her? Reverend Paul definitely wants drama among the webcam girls to divert attention from the trouble white men are stirring up, but beyond that… the plot is murky.
  • I’d rather watch Antonio cook with Margaret than punch the air while she doesn’t blink.
  • Mark could’ve tried harder to hide his face. He literally stands up in the spotlight.
