Hulu has released the trailer for its upcoming film Books of Blood, which is based on the classic anthology of horror stories by Clive Barker.

According to Hulu’s description, the film “takes audiences on a journey into uncharted and forbidden territory through three uncanny tales tangled in space and time.” 

Anna Friel plays Mary, a psychologist famous for debunking stories of the paranormal. Her latest subject, Simon (Rafi Gavron), claims to be a medium in contact with Mary’s dead son. Britt Robertson also stars as Jenna, a runaway who suffers from misophonia (extreme sensitivity to sound), and Yul Vazquez plays a contract killer on the hunt for a priceless artifact.

Several stories from Clive Barker’s horror series have been adapted before, including the 1992 film Candyman and the 1995 adaptation of Lord of Illusions, which was written and directed by Barker himself. A new Candyman film, written and produced by modern horror master Jordan Peele, is also due to be released in 2021.

Hulu’s version of Books of Blood will be helmed by Brannon Braga, a veteran producer whose previous work includes the hit TV shows 24 and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Books of Blood with be his directorial debut.
