Preview — The 100 Season 7 Episode 16: The Last War
Clarke and her friends have reached the final battle on The 100 Season 7 Episode 16, “The Last War.” All of the fighting and loss has led to this. Though, there is a larger question that looms over this series finale: Is humanity worthy of something greater?
The 100 asks this question hundreds of different ways over the course of the series. This episode should deliver the answer. The logical answer to this question is that, of course, humanity is worthy of something greater than war. If not, what has all of this been for?
The 100 prioritizes humanity’s innate need to protect each other and survive in spite of insurmountable odds. The series finale should honor this message by proving these characters can exist without chasing another war. It should tie up necessary loose ends and find a conclusion for this epic story that spans space and time.
This isn’t to say there needs to be a perfect and happy ending for every character. The promo video itself speaks to the hard truth that this is unlikely. Unfortunately, The 100 Season 7 Episode 15, “The Dying of the Light,” is an example of this sad fate because Madi loses her agency just as quickly as she gains it.
Albeit, Clarke and her friends are going into battle, which may not bode well for them either. There’s also zero chance that Clarke will hold back when she comes face to face with Cadogan again. No one is safe, and everything is not okay. This is classic The 100.
The 100 Season 7 Episode 16, “The Last War,” carries a lot on its shoulders; a satisfying ending to a series is a difficult task. All we can hope is that The 100 properly honors those who were a part of this massive journey.
The 100 has been one hell of a rollercoaster, but one thing is certain. May we meet again.
