Throwback Thursday: ‘Stargate: Atlantis,’ ‘Entourage,’ ‘Family Feud,’ and a Major ‘Teen Wolf’ Moment

Pearson, Teen Wolf, Throwback Thursday

Often, the way we relate to the passage of time is through the TV programs that we know and love. Along that same vein, Tell-Tale TV is proud to launch a brand new weekly column: Throwback Thursday

This week we are going to start off by looking through premieres, finales, major TV events and moments that occurred in years prior between the dates of July 12th-18th. We’ll also highlight a few favorite articles from the past.

This week we look at the Apollo Launch, Live Aid Concert Event, and many major TV premieres throughout the years.

Fasten your seatbelts…it’s going to be a bumpy ride through TV History.

Major TV Moments:
The Apollo 11 Launch (July 16th, 1969)

YouTube video

In 1969, the NASA Space Program launched its first-ever shuttle to the moon. Apollo 11’s launch was televised live on BBC as well as ABC.

This was the first mission to the moon with Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins as the crew. It was a historical moment for the United States space program and launched us into the space race.

The Live Aid Concert Event (July 13th, 1985)

YouTube video

In 1985, Bob Gedolf and Midge Ure organized a global event to raise relief money for the Ethiopian famine. Many artists got together and put on a benefit concert that was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia.

It was one of the largest-scale television events of all time, watched across 150 nations, with an estimated global audience of 1.9 billion who watched the live broadcast. Some of the artists who performed included: Queen, David Bowie, Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, Huey Lewis & The News, U2, The Who, Sting, Tears for Fears, Elton John, Billy Joel, Boy George, Neil Young, and Stevie Wonder.

Boyd’s Death (Teen Wolf Season 3 Episode 7, “Currents”) (July 15, 2013)
boyds death
Teen Wolf Season 3 Episode 7, “Currents”

This moment is a big one for fans of the show Teen Wolf. Boyd is a beloved character and his death seemed senseless and unnecessary. Boyd’s death marked the end of Derek’s pack because it pushes him further from his remaining Beta — Isaac.

If anything, this episode really highlights just how vulnerable Derek is and how guilty he feels about things — even when they are out of his control. For the rest of Season 3, the Alpha pack really feeds into that and uses it against both Derek and Scott’s pack.

Premieres:
Family Feud
Family Feud – 1976
