Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist Renewed For Season 2 at NBC

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist fans have something to sing about — the musical dramedy has been renewed for Season 2 at NBC, TV Line reports. 

The show stars Jane Levy (Suburgatory) as the titular character, who has a newfound ability to hear the heart songs of people around her and help them fix problems in their lives.

Skylar Astin (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) stars as Zoey’s best friend since childhood and potential love interest. Mary Steenbergen stars as Zoey’s mother Maggie, Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls, Parenthood) as her boss, and Alex Newell (The Glee Project) as the neighbor who helps her navigate the consequences of her new powers.

The Season 1 finale of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist matched its series high rating, and the show averaged about 3.1 million viewers when its Live +7 ratings were factored in. 

Creator Austin Winsberg spoke to TV Line about what to expect from Season 2 before it was official.

Along with navigating big changes in her family, Zoey has matters of the heart to deal with. Max isn’t the only one interested in romance. She also has a deep connection with her co-worker at SPRQ Point, Simon (John Clarence Stewart, Luke Cage). 

“I didn’t want it to be definitive that she had made a choice for one or the other,” Winsberg said. “…it’s going to continue to create different options and challenges for Season 2.”

The men are at different places in their lives, and it will be up to Zoey to decide who she’s emotionally ready to pursue.
