Top 10 Moments from Siren Season 3

Lists, Siren

Siren Season 3 delivers a season that fans won’t soon forget as Ryn, Maddie, Helen, and Ben must help defeat a mermaid terrorist set on making the human species extinct.

Season 3 is one wild ride from start to finish as mermaids from other tribes come to the surface, Ted finally figures out the truth, Ben plays with his genetic makeup, and Ryn has a baby. One thing I love that gets explored this season is the bond between a mermaid mother and daughter, and just how far it goes.

There are many unforgettable moments throughout the season, and it wasn’t an easy task, but I’ve narrowed down my top 10 moments of the season.

Here, in chronological order, are my top moments of Siren Season 3. There are spoilers in this list!

1. Tia’s Crash Introduction (Episode 1)

giphy-10

Tia is a complex character, and throughout the season, she has done many preposterous things that made fans, more than likely, yell at their TV’s. She tries to come off as a fighter for good, but the way she crash lands into the lives of Ben, Maddie, and Ryn should’ve been a clear sign from the beginning that things were about to get deranged.

Tia hijacking the plane and crash landing it into the ocean within the first few minutes of the season is the perfect intro for the military-trained mermaid terrorist of the season.

2. Ben’s Self-Experiment (Episode 3)

giphy-9

Since Season 1, Ben has been fascinated with Ryn and her species and has taken every opportunity to educate himself on their DNA and what makes them tick. He even decides to use mermaid stem cells to try and heal his sick mother.

Over time I think that it became more than wanting to learn about them and turned into wanting to become one so he could be with Ryn forever.

Ben witnessing his mother breathe underwater for many minutes with no issues is the tipping point for him. He says that he is using himself as a test dummy to see if it’s safe to give his mother the different cells, but I think it’s an excuse Ben came up with himself so he can be one step closer with Ryn.

Because the stem cells worked so well with Ben’s body and allowed him to grow gills after being underwater for so long, I don’t believe that he’s dead.

I can’t make myself believe it; there has to be a logical reason for why he would stay a mermaid in the water and not come back. I think that because Ben made himself a mermaid by injections, he more than likely can’t turn back into a human.

3. Ryn’s First Meeting With Her Baby (Episode 4)

This moment is such a joyous one because Ryn thought she’d never be able to have a baby after the one “failed” attempt, but now she has a beautiful baby girl that she gets to forever live her life with.

It’s lovely to see Ryn and Hope’s connection, even before she was born, and Ryn could feel the contractions Meredith was having, or her keeping a constant eye on Hope by feeling her heartbeat all the time.

What I also enjoy about this particular moment is Ryn’s ability to forgive and forget because she easily could’ve stayed mad at Meredith for stealing her baby from her.

But, Ryn can see that Meredith truly wanted to help and was honored to be carrying her baby so her line could live on. Meredith’s body being buried in the water like the rest of the mermaids is what she deserved, and it shows how caring Ryn truly is, even towards someone she barely knows.

4. Rick Can’t Keep a Secret (Episode 6)

giphy-3

Rick has always been skittish, gullible, and kind of a pushover, but I didn’t think that he’d be dumb enough to air out the information and location of the hybrid ranch to Ted Pownall. All because Rick can’t keep his mouth shut or tell a measly lie, he put every hybrid in danger by telling Ted where they congregate.

Throughout the season, as he learned more about just how real the mermaids are, Ted continued to show the same thought patterns his family had back in the day. If Ted had wanted to, he quickly could’ve done something stupid, something that could’ve killed every one of them because he saw them as a threat.

5. Xander Saving Cami’s Life (Episode 6)

giphy-4

Xander’s character growth is one that will always stand out to me.

At the beginning of the series, he hated the mermaids with every fiber in his body and even killed Donna. Since then, he’s come around and seen the error of his ways, but making that up to her daughter, Cami, is not something I thought I’d ever see.

At first, Cami ignores Xander’s apology and lets it be known that she still remembers what he did, no matter what he may say, but saving her life is a real eye-opener to her that he’s not lying. If Xander wanted to, he could’ve allowed Cami to die, but he genuinely does care and regret his actions, and it’s clear to Cami that he has changed.

6. Katrina’s Death (Episode 6)

giphy-8

Katrina’s death is a victory to me, even if it isn’t a victory to Ryn. Katrina has been a problem since day one and has tried to kill and overrule Ryn many times throughout their time together on land, but because Ryn believes in chances, she kept giving her the benefit of the doubt.

Even after Katrina betrayed her, joined forces with Tia, and tried to kill the rest of her tribe, Ryn still offered her another chance to prove that she can change.

However, Katrina could no longer go back to being Ryn’s puppet and having to follow her commands; instead, she kills herself with the spear Ryn holds up to her throat. I don’t think that Katrina deserved the right to decide when she was done, but I’m glad that she won’t be another enemy to fight in Season 4.

7. Robb’s True Identity (Episode 6)

giphy-6

I didn’t give Robb much of a thought until he started pushing Maddie to try and be more open about her research, even after she’s clearly expressed her wishes to not speak on it until she has more data.

At that moment, I knew that there was something off with him, but never would I have guessed that he was another mermaid from a tribe up north. Ryn revealing him as a mermaid was a huge moment and made me wonder just how many more mermaids there could be living on land without ever being found out.

In the end, Robb becomes a character that I enjoy and look forward to seeing more of in Season 4. After all, he is the reason that a cure was able to be made, and without it, Xander, along with millions all over the country, would be dead.

8. Donna Gets A Proper Burial (Episode 8)

giphy-7

When Donna died in Season 1, she wasn’t given the right to a proper mermaid burial because it wasn’t safe for them to go out in the water and give her one because of the military. They weren’t even aware that her body had been dug up and put back in the hands of the army until she reached out to Helen from the spirit world.

With Donna’s body back in the hands of her family, thanks to Xander stealing her remains from the military building, Cami finally gets the opportunity to send her mother off the proper way so her soul can finally be at peace.

Donna has deserved peace since her death, and it’s fantastic that they worked together to make it happen.

9. Massive Cyber Attack (Episode 9)

giphy-5

Like I said in my earlier point, Tia came in hot at the beginning of the season and made it known that she was going to be trouble, but I don’t think anybody could’ve predicted that she’d be an ex-Russian agent on a mission to kill all humans.

Her ability to hack into the system and use her song over a phone call proves just how smart she is and her gathering tribes all over the ocean demonstrates how determined she is to wipe the human species extinct.

If it wasn’t for Ben ramming his car into the electrical tower for the city, Tia could’ve gotten away with more bloodshed on her hands than she already did.

10. Tia’s Death (Episode 10)

tumblr_62d1e5cc2cb38205ba9688f179848313_4e1fd989_540

Tia was a strong opponent from day one, and she made Ryn work harder than she’s ever had to before, but in the end, she wasn’t strong enough to defeat Ryn one on one.

Tia’s whole strategy was to force other tribes to join her by using the manpower that she already had, making her even more potent after each hit. That’s why she didn’t believe that Ryn would ever have the power to defeat her, but she also didn’t think that Ryn was smart enough to gather her own army.

With the help of Robb’s tribe and her tribe, they went head to head in the water as the war that Ryn had been warned about had finally arrived. However, once Ryn killed Tia, the fighting was over, and everyone bowed their head to Ryn.

I don’t think that the people following Tia wanted to help her; they were helping purely out of fear that she would murder them if they didn’t. So, when Ryn defeated her and proves that Tia is not as strong as she says she is, they all have the opportunity to stop and make things right.

Every mermaid in the water bowing their heads to Ryn as their rightful leader is a sight that I won’t soon forget, and I hope that we’ll get to see more unity between the mermaids in Season 4.

Siren Season 3 brought a new meaning to the word threat this season and pushed our favorite characters to their limits, but in the end, things worked out in their favor, for the most part. The big question for next season being: Is Ben dead?
