Preview — Mrs. America Season 1 Episode 1: Phyllis
One of the most highly anticipated shows of 2020 is almost here!
Mrs. America Season 1 Episode 1, “Phyllis,” will introduce us to Phyllis Schlafly played by two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett. Set during the turbulent 70’s and based on true events, Mrs. America will focus on Schlafly’s battle against the women’s liberation movement and the Equal Rights Amendment.
The show will cover both sides of this political war and the struggles that arise within each camp, creating a stage for some major drama with an impressive cast. There is no lack of star power in this line-up.
Rose Byrne and Tracey Ullman play Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan, leading figures of the feminist movement and its activism. Uzo Aduba portrays Shirley Chisholm, a politician who brought her support of the ERA to Congress.
On Schlafly’s side, John Slattery plays her husband, Fred, and Sarah Paulson follows her lead as her best friend, Alice. Blanchett and Paulson have co-starred together in the past in the films Carol and Ocean’s 8. It’s exciting to see them as friends again but with a whole different dynamic.
James Marsden, Elizabeth Banks, and Margo Martindale round out the rest of the superb cast.
“Revolutions are messy.” Are you ready?
