The Bold Type Review: The Space Between (Season 4 Episode 7)
It’s ridiculous that Jane is ever considered for Forbes‘ “30 Under 30,” so we’re happy that The Bold Type Season 4 Episode 7, “The Space Between” spares us from having to rant about that too much. Jane is a staff writer at a women’s fashion magazine who had some great ideas and mentors to help her do things like take down a woman who abused models.
Speaking as someone who has held a writing position, she’s on the right path but has a long way to go.
We’re happy that Jane knows this and made the decision to have a double mastectomy so that she has many more years to be who she wants to be in her personal life and career.

The most important element in Jane’s story is that she makes this decision related to her BRACA-1 gene independently. Ryan is there for support during her appointment, but he’s not in the room with her.
As “funny” as the scene on The Bold Type Season 4 Episode 2 “#Scarlet” is — it’s not realistic. Having friends or a boyfriend waiting outside for you after an appointment like that is all any woman needs.
If Sutton and Kat were at the appointment with Jane, their opinion might sway her. That’s not what anyone needs when making a decision like that, as well-meaning as advice may be.

Jane needs a day off, those pretzels, and a random dance party with her boyfriend. I’m just really confused about why they spend the whole entire day and night in the park when there are so many warm places with good food to eat in Manhattan.
There are also many places for photographers to work in. While I’ve been a steady Kadena shipper throughout the entire series, right now I’d love for Adena to go to one of them and never come back.
Even though she apologizes, because the next thing she does is question her and Kat’s entire relationship.
So, she has no problem with bisexual people unless she has sex with one and that’s textbook hypocritical. Kat doesn’t have time for that, so it’s really no loss to her that Adena doesn’t want to be friends right now. That’s mature Adena.
It’s also so out of character, we may begin to question how Adena is being written. It’s too early to tell, this being her first episode of the season.

Kadena scenes for more Oliver and Kat scenes is a totally fair trade.
Oliver is completely supportive of Kat’s sexuality and acknowledges that everyone’s journey to whatever sexual identity they want is their own. It’s really a shame he couldn’t stay at the party longer because it would’ve been great to see Oliver let loose.
Bisexual women on TV are rare. Kat needs to stay right where she is having sex with whomever she wants to, whatever their gender is.
The Bold Type takes the issue a step further by tackling bisexual erasure by name. There is a third lane, and you don’t have to get in it if it’s not your style, but society needs to start acknowledging that it’s there.
For the record, there’s also a fifth and probably a sixth and everyone also has the right to write-in whatever they want to, kind of like an electoral ballot.

The Fine Print
- Jaqueline’s storyline is still a waste of screentime, which is such a waste of Melora Hardin’s talent.
- That said, her dance to “Push It” is epic.
- Sutton is downright daring to attempt to do a personal styling job during Scarlet hours.
- However, I really don’t understand what she’s done wrong. She didn’t lie to Alice. Sutton doesn’t exactly work for Oliver, she and Oliver work for Scarlet. I’m really unsure where the personal betrayal happened.
