Station 19 Review: House Where Nobody Lives (Season 3 Episode 4)

Reviews, Station 19

After a slow start to the season, Station 19 Season 3 Episode 4, “House Where Nobody Lives,” gets the show back to its roots. The emotional hour gets to the core of a handful of the problems plaguing the team, while also serving up a few welcome twists.

Eleven year old Jack’s story is perfect. He is so pure-hearted at this age, and it is abundantly clear how much he cherishes his foster family. The tenderness he shows towards his sister and brother make their separation heart-wrenching, but also makes me wonder if Jack has tried to find them as adults.

They hold so much meaning to him at that age, though, that not doing so would make sense. Jack is weary of letting people in for fear of getting hurt. He’s hurt by their separation and is still licking his wounds post-Maya, so who can blame him, really?

An episode away from Maya is just what Jack needs, though, as we see him relax enough to open up to Andy. He listens to her and offers a shoulder to lean on— which is perfect— but it baffles me how he is the first one to do so.

His words about Ryan and that he hates his death “for [her]” is the kind of compassion Andy needs. Their decision to become roommates is not as off the wall as it seems. He needs people and she needs someone she can trust— it’s really a perfect match.

It is tough to see them both pulling away from Maya, though. The whole Maya story actually just sucks in general. Maya’s motivation after Sullivan spots her potential last season pushes her to be the best Lieutenant she could be, but it has now been twisted in a way that makes her character unlikable.

Vilifying her for her drive? Really? Double standards for women are so 2018.

That’s not to say Maya is entirely at fault as her friendship with Andy deteriorates to the level it has. Ambition and jealousy are both okay, but airing the latter the way Andy does is just juvenile. Sullivan’s meddling only makes things worse, but really, when does it not?

Maybe Andy isn’t channeling her emotions the best way, but we can’t fault her when she just lost the man she trusted most, and the men left in her life treat her like a puppet.

Seriously, am I the only one who sees how problematic Pruitt and Sullivan really are? Maybe Andy needs to keep handling her emotions this way if it’s the only way those two are going to listen. Yeesh.

So are we to believe that JJ’s baby is really Dean’s? I want to know before I jump up and down with joy. Those two are the very first Station 19 couple I have ever shipped, so hopefully, we aren’t getting played.
