Batwoman Review: Drink Me (Season 1 Episode 13)

Batwoman, Reviews

While Batwoman Season 1 Episode 13, “Drink Me,” definitely has its serious moments, overall it is a much lighter hour, which is due to the levity of people interacting outside of work and discussing things other than a mission.

Luke teasing Kate about Sophie flirting with Elle is fantastic, and it makes you realize that we haven’t really seen much of their friendship so far in the show. Most of their conversations are about the mission.

Luke and Kate had to have been friends before this, at least on some level, but it is amazing to finally see the two of them having serious and joking conversations with one another about more personal things. It’s hard to tell if this happens because Luke is allowed to leave the Batcave for once or what, but it needs to continue.

Seeing the two of them banter allows us to form more of a connection, a bond, with them. Before “Drink Me,” their friendship wouldn’t have even ranked as one of my favorite things about Batwoman.

After this episode, I’m invested in their friendship a lot more now, and I want to see more of it.

Another highlight of the hour is Mary and Sophie’s friendship. They are seriously such a fun pair, and Mary being Sophie’s wing-woman is a cute moment. Maybe now that Sophie has been suspended, the two of them can hang out a lot more.

Kate: Did we just lure a vampire to us using a bar full of walking blood bags?

Speaking of Mary, it is about time she put the pieces together about Kate being Batwoman! Honestly, it should’ve happened a lot earlier considering the fact that Mary isn’t stupid and Kate is a terrible liar, but better late than never.

Mary being in the know is going to shake things up in a fantastic way. Every time Mary has unknowingly assisted in a case, it’s been a lot more enjoyable to watch. She adds a fun dynamic to the mix, and it’s been great seeing her get to know Luke.

Any theories on how Luke and Kate will learn that Mary knows? Mary could go confrontational, or she could play it coy and wait for one of them to figure out that she knows. Both options are bound to be entertaining.

After the events of Kate’s betrayal on Batwoman Season 1 Episode 12, “Take Your Choice,” it seemed as if Alice would turn on Kate. It’s definitely the logical response to your twin picking someone else’s life over yours.

But that doesn’t happen; Kate is the one who is angry and completely over Alice. It’s an unexpected turn of events, and it’s hard to tell if Alice continuing to try to help Kate and win her affection will become repetitive of her actions from earlier on this season or will somehow come across differently.

We do see Alice become more unhinged. Mouse being M.I.A. immediately after Kate betrays Alice isn’t the best timing for Alice’s mental state.

Alice: Do you think letting me die on a linoleum floor got lost in subtext? I get it, Kate. I mean nothing to you.

It is fascinating to see more of the broken aspects of Alice’s psyche, and while a mental breakdown isn’t good for anyone, it is a reminder that Alice suffered a trauma back when she was kidnapped that has not, and will not, go away.

Stray Thoughts:
  • Did I miss how Jake got exonerated? Alice being dead shouldn’t equal his freedom.
  • Speaking of Jake, his anger issues are not entertaining at all. Sophie should start a coup and take over the Crows.
  • Sophie, are you telling me that making out with Batwoman didn’t remind you of making out with Kate at all?
  • Nocturna is such a fun villain; I’ve missed Kayla Ewell on my screen.
