‘New Amsterdam’ Scores Three-Season Renewal Order Through 2022-2023 TV Season
New Amsterdam will keep its door open for a while yet. Fans won’t have to worry about the fate of their favorite show for the next three years.
NBC announced on Saturday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that it has handed an early three-season reenwal to the sophomore medical starring Ryan Eggold, a renewal jackpot that secures the show’s fate until the 2022-2023 TV season.
This matches the three-season renewal the network gave This Is Us in May.
According to Deadline, New Amsterdam‘s sophomore outing has averaged a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.8 million viewers overall in Live+7. The series rants fifth in NBC’s scripted series line up, behind This Is Us, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med.
Currently, New Amsterdam adds 4.6 million in delayed viewing, the third-biggest lift on all of television and the second-highest for the network behind This Is Us.
New Amsterdam is owned by NBCUniversal. The strength of the series performance in the digital space is increasingly important for the network, which is currently seeking to produce strong series that can act as valuable streaming assets for the network for years to come.

I love this show, and am pretty “obsessed” with it – Each of the lead characters are absolutely compelling, and the storylines are so touching, although not always anywhere close to what actually happens in a hospital/medical setting – the whole “dam fam” scenario is so cool -It also seems that the actors who portray these characters are pretty awesome and into “giving back” in their real lives too, which attracts me to this show even more!
