Batwoman Review: How Queer Everything Is Today! (Season 1 Episode 10)
I think it’s safe to say that Batwoman Season 1 Episode 10, “How Queer Everything Is Today!,” delivers one of the most shocking post-“Crisis” moment ever, and I’ve got questions, lots of them.
Beth is alive, and somehow so is Alice, and, it seems like absolutely no one is aware of that fact.
As we saw on “Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 5,” everyone who isn’t a paragon had to have a bit of memory assistance to remember/get caught up on what happened pre and post-“Crisis.”

It’s clear that either Luke was either filled in by Kate and/or got some magical memory help from J’onn, but he’s the only person (that we know of) address the events of the crossover. So, it would stand to reason that everyone else exists in a world where Beth Kane has always been alive and well.
So this would mean that Mary would know who Beth is and would’ve recognized her at the college and wouldn’t have thought it was Alice, or at least Sophie would’ve mentioned the possibility that it is Beth when Sophie calls. Also, how do Alice and Beth both exist?
Batwoman Season 1 Episode 11 has a lot of explaining to do because right now, certain things aren’t making sense. Aside from the initial shock factor, it’s hard to decide what to make of this new twist because it is hard to figure out how Beth will fit into the narrative.

Kate’s made her peace with her sister being dead, as she makes clear to Alice during the hour. So Beth being alive will only help solidify that idea that Alice is not Beth — wow, Beth being alive makes this a little confusing to discuss.
Right now, it seems like Beth will just add some turmoil to Kate’s personal life (and it will be interesting to see if she knows the Bat secret). But other than that, it’s hard to tell what purpose this Beth will serve.
Honestly, I’m afraid that Beth will end up dead by the end of the season, by either Mouse or Alice’s hand. What are your thoughts on this twist?
Sophie: Ever feel like you’re hiding from the world?
Kate/Batwoman: I’m literally standing in a shadow.
Let’s dive into the rest of the hour, which is thankfully not as puzzling.
Part of being a superhero is keeping your real life a secret, and in the day and age of social media, that makes it harder than ever. Batwoman being shipped with the Gotham police version of Captain America is a light and fun way for Kate to work through how much of herself she shares with the world as Batwoman.
And then there’s Parker, who hits home every fear Kate had about letting Gotham believe something about Batwoman that is not reflective of herself at all.
Parker: And let’s raincheck your It’s Get Better PSA. We both know that I’m going to grow up hiding my girlfriends and aspiring to be represented by an ancillary character on my favorite TV show.
Parker brings a great emotional element to the hour with her verbal standoff with Batwoman and her reaction when Kate is unmasked. She lets Kate see just how much Batwoman could and does matter to the people of Gotham.
Parker needs to return for more episodes. She knows Kate’s secret, and she’s a really good hacker. Another hacker is always good to have on hand when keeping Gotham in check.
Also, Kate can’t just keep going around unmasking herself to various people and have there not be any consequences to that fact. Parker being brought into the fold a bit more would be a great consequence.
Parker can join Batwoman’s crime-fighting team, and her cover could be that she’s an intern for Kate’s real estate business. I mean that has to look great on college applications, and it also allows us to have more Parker in our lives.
Stray Thoughts:
- It’s so great to see more of Mary’s relationship with Jake and seeing him be a father to her.
- Luke and Kate having to go undercover to learn more about the case of the week is amazing, and we need more of it.
- Please tell me we’re going to have some interrogation scenes between Alice and Sophie during the next episode.
