18 Tremendous Ted Moments from ‘Schitt’s Creek’

As fans of Schitt’s Creek will all say, every character is important to the makeup and comedic timing of the show. However, one of the sweetest and funniest is often overlooked in favor of his partner or her more outlandish family members. 

I’m talking about Ted Mullens, veterinarian extraordinaire. The man knows just how to turn a scene from being mundane to capturing our hearts and minds. It’s all in part to the character’s writing as well as Dustin Milligan’s acting choices. 

Even though his presence in Season 6 is a little up in the air considering he traveled to the Galapagos Islands at the end of Season 5, Ted Mullens can never let Galapa-go of our hearts!

So to celebrate him we have compiled a list of Ted’s 18 greatest moments on the show. They are in no particular order because can you really put an order on the love we feel for this tender man?

Also, this goes without saying, if you haven’t seen all five seasons of this show (I mean why haven’t you?) there are spoilers abound!

1. Ted defends the bunnies

When Ted’s arch-rival, Dr. Miguel’s practice starts to get more business, Alexis convinces Ted he should do a bunny cam on his cute little bunnies to bring more business to his practice. Ted is reluctant at first because he doesn’t like the idea of exploiting his sweet innocent fluffy friends.

Alexis manages to convince him but not before Ted takes one more giant stand for their rights. This moment is definitely funny in and out of context, but it’s also a clear indication of just who Ted is as a person.

He will protect and stand up for anyone — human or not.

2. Awkward hug

Ted throws himself full force into his relationship with Alexis in Season 1. So it comes as no surprise that he falls hard when she inevitably breaks things off with him at the start of Season 2. 

Ted in Season 1 is definitely a little less seasoned and matured as Season 5 Ted, but it’s his tenderness that endears us to him. When he is heartbroken over his relationship ending, he, of course, goes to Johnny for comfort. 

This is sweet and also a great way to show just how much he grows after his broken engagement.

We always talk about how much the Roses have all grown over the course of the show, but what about Ted? He went from sobbing on Johnny’s shoulder to standing his own independent ground and going to the Galapagos.

3. Motorcycle Ted

It’s safe to say Ted showing up on that motorcycle after a hiatus is a breath of fresh air. Then when he takes off the helmet and we see that not only did he get a new mode of transportation but also a new hairdo, we are sold.

This is the best way any show could handle a character like Ted doing a total turn with regards to how they hold themselves. Ted grows exponentially by going on his honeymoon without Alexis. 

This moment ushers in the new and improved Ted Mullens while maintaining his quick “dad joke” nature, for which we’ve never been happier.

4. Ted’s punny humor

There are many iconic Ted moments that are defined by his ability to land a really great pun. As Dustin Milligan spilled on his latest EW interview, the puns eventually became a part of who Ted is because Milligan kept improvising them in early on.

The puns are definitely why we love Ted as much as we do. It allows him to take dad jokes to a whole other level. 

Saying lines such as “Definitely one of my pet peeves,” about gifts for the dogs or “I sink so” about a sink or even his cutest, “I was just giving them a little pup-talk” about the dogs solidifies Dr. Mullens as one of the funniest.

He manages to make puns funny again — even if they never were before.

5. Attending Alexis’ graduation

One of the first sweet gestures that Ted made for Alexis post-breakup is when he shows up at her high school graduation. We held our collective breaths as the camera panned out to reveal that Ted was the person who came and tapped Alexis on her shoulder.

It’s one of those moments where Ted is just being a good human being and showing his support of Alexis. He could easily be one of those ex-boyfriends who doesn’t treat her right because of everything she put him through.

Instead, he gives her a job, and he chooses to believe in her even when she leaves that job to pursue something she is more suited for — just don’t say you quit.

6. Ted, the baker

Ted is always the gentleman, even when Alexis says or does something he doesn’t quite agree with. Instead of calling her out on it directly, he usually does an indirect jab that he hopes will get her attention.

So when Alexis seems oblivious to all the hard work he has put into making Christmas cookies, he lets her know with not one but two subtle jabs. One being a pun on the word “crack” and her talk of Krakow with friends. The other being a direct comment on just how many cookies he’s already made.

Ted is, simply put, not about Alexis’ shit, but he’s also too nice to ever truly call her out on it. He leads with kindness — always — which is admirable.

7. Ted, a doctor?

One of the only bad things about Schitt’s Creek is its lack of doctors. However, the town does have Ted, and while he’s a veterinarian, his knowledge still comes in handy for his friends every now and again.

Back in Season 1, he is the go-to expert that Stevie takes David to when he thinks he is having a heart attack. With a smile and a gentle hand, Ted diagnoses David with a panic attack.

This moment is the first time these two characters meet, and it becomes a nice contrast for opposite ends of the spectrum. These two couldn’t be any more different, and yet they are the most important people in Alexis’ life. Just think about that for a second.

8. Drunk Ted

One of the funniest moments for Ted comes in Season 5 at Patrick’s housewarming party. For a character who is always so “by the book” and doesn’t really let his hair down, Ted lets it all out during the party.

He is drunk even before he arrives at the party and then proceeds to continue drinking as the night wears on. It all comes to a head when he plays spin the bottle and kisses David.

We thought this was the best we were going to get from Ted, but then in the final moments, he imitates Alexis, and the love for “drunk Ted” is born.  Where would we be if we’d never heard Ted shrilly say “Ew. Ew. Ew. That’s you” to Alexis?

9. The cringy dinner party

Sweet and naive basically describes Ted throughout Season 1. However, if there is one good thing to come from that version of him, it’s his dinner party with Mutt, Twyla, David, Stevie, and Alexis. 

It is around this time that everyone is sleeping with at least one — if not two in the case of Mutt and Alexis — person in attendance. To make matters worse, the only two extremely sweet people at the table are both clueless as to just how deceptive their significant other is being.

Ted is really good at pouring a ton of sweet into a terrible situation which only makes audiences love him that much more. He doesn’t deserve how Alexis treats him, but we also can’t stop watching it happen.

10. Singles Week

We’d be lying if we didn’t say this moment between Ted and Alexis makes our shipper hearts squeal exponentially. It is a moment that is a long time coming — something that makes it all the more sentimental.

Both of these characters deserve to find each other once again, especially considering how much they’ve each grown. What makes this even better is that Ted doesn’t make the first move for once — Alexis does.

Ted is all heart and this moment really shows that he has a vulnerable side too. Just because Ted walks around all the time as if Alexis doesn’t affect him doesn’t mean he isn’t secretly pining for her.

11. Lice removal

Ted isn’t dating Alexis during Season 3, and yet he willingly offers to do something as intimate as taking lice out of her hair. It’s another one of those tender moments that cement Ted into our hearts even more fully.

He could’ve told Alexis to buy lice shampoo and then sent her on her way. Wouldn’t we all want a man who is willing to painstakingly comb each little lice out of our hair?

Ted is the real MVP and could actually give Johnny and Patrick a run for their money as the most tender-hearted giving man in Schitt’s Creek.

12. Awkward sex Ted

What is more comedic than Ted trying to do sexy role play? Nothing. At one point David and Patrick have to be away from the store, and so David asks Alexis to come in and wait on a package.

What he isn’t expecting is for Alexis to invite Ted over for a little middle of the day rendezvous in the Rose Apothecary bathroom. He also isn’t expecting the two of them to break the sink.

The whole messy situation is made even funnier by Ted’s total lack of experience with both role-playing and covering up messy sexcapades. His boyish charm and naivete really come out at this moment which makes us smile even more.

13. Ted discovers he was on the Bunny Cam

Once again, Ted is funniest when the tides turn and he gets into some kind of unexpected trouble. This time he’s been adamant against selling himself to get more customers, but he ends up doing just that — unintentionally. 

Ted Mullens is very sexy and could easily double his client market if he were to use himself as a selling point. However, he refuses and that definitely makes him the nice guy, but nice guys rarely win. 

Now, Alexis is trying to help him be that nice guy, and it goes horribly wrong because of Ted’s naive nature. He doesn’t think about the fact that a camera on the bunnies in his office could also pick up his movements around the office. Oh, Ted.

14. Working lunch at Heather’s farm

This is a moment that most of us look at from Alexis’ perspective. She is in love with Ted and now has to sit through a business lunch with her brother and Ted and his new girlfriend. 

However, let’s look at it from Ted’s perspective. This man wants to support his current girlfriend and her business while also giving his ex-girlfriend her space. 

It’s an awkward situation that easily could’ve turned into a disaster for both David and Heather’s business prospects. Thankfully, Ted is there to smooth everything over and silently encourages his ex to stand her ground with regards to sealing the deal for David.

15. Heart to heart, David Rose style

It isn’t often that Ted gets to interact with David. So when the Season 4 finale brings them together sans Alexis a tender man to man chat ensues. 

Not only is Ted able to be there for David as he musters up the courage to tell Patrick he loves him back, but David is also there for Ted. The two chat through their insecurities about love and commitment — both of them coming out the other side ready to admit their love to their partners.

It’s moments like this where we wish we could get more Ted and David moments. The two are very important to Alexis so it is high time they really bond with each other.

16. Ted holding a playbill

This moment doesn’t have any words and is really just a background moment, but it’s still very memorable. Ted is the biggest supporter of all his friends and nothing shows that better than Ted sitting in the audience of Cabaret.

He is simply sitting there holding a playbill and smiling really big, but it captures our hearts just as much as the performance happening on stage. Ted could be at home really preparing to go to the Galapagos, but instead, he spends his night happily cheering on his girlfriend and friends.

It’s his kind of joy that is infectious and warms us all. Let’s just hope there is more of this unbridled happiness and support from Ted in Season 6.

17. Ted and Alexis discuss missing someone

It isn’t often that Alexis feels anything about her family or at least not that she will admit. However, toward the end of Season 5 — as she and Ted prepare for their trip — she admits to worrying about being somewhere else and only thinking of her family in Schitt’s Creek.

Ted is very gentle with her through this moment, and it quickly defines how he sees her — and probably always has. Instead of scoffing at her for her inexperience with real human emotions, Ted guides her through the moment by telling her that she is normal to feel this way.

If there is ever someone destined to be with someone else, Ted and Alexis definitely fit that bill. They compliment each other in all of the best ways which is all anyone could ask for in someone they love.

18. Ted observes Alexis doing her best work

This final moment that we love Ted for is another one where he doesn’t say a single thing. In fact, Alexis has no idea that he is even there as she tells one of their clients that her cat died. 

Ted has just gotten done telling Alexis that he doesn’t know what he’s going to do because the death was completely unexpected. He asks Alexis to just stall the woman instead of trusting her to deliver the bad news herself.

When he comes out and sees that Alexis has already told the woman about her cat’s demise, Ted simply hangs back and watches as Alexis bonds with the woman. It is this moment where we can see Ted truly put all his faith in Alexis and trust that she actually can do the job he hired her for even if she isn’t entirely qualified.
