The Doctor and company are back after what feels like too long, and they are ready to offer their help on a new series of time and space adventures. Doctor Who returns Wednesday, January 1 at 8/7c on BBC America.
Episode Description: Intelligence agents around the world are under attack from alien forces. MI6 turns to the only people who can help: The Doctor and friends. As they travel the globe for answers, attacks come from all sides.
Almost Family – Wednesday, January 1
The first network series to return from winter hiatus is returning New Year’s Day and is ready to pick up where things left off as Roxy returns from rehab. Almost Family returns Wednesday, January 1, at 9/8c on FOX.
Episode Description: Roxy is released from rehab and begins to make amends with those she hurt; Donovan decides it’s time for Julia to meet his kids; Edie and Amanda’s personal relationship blossoms, but Edie struggles to make a worthwhile deal for Leon’s sentence.
Spinning Out Season 1 – Wednesday, January 1
Netflix is bringing drama and intrigue to the world of figure skating as the series follows Kat Baker as she approaches a second chance at the world she was so close to being welcomed in. Spinning Out Season 1 drops Wednesday, January 1 on Netflix.
Series Description: Spinning Out follows Kat Baker (Kaya Scodelario), a talented, up-and-coming elite figure skater who’s ready to turn in her skates after a disastrous fall took her off the competition track. However, when she’s presented a second chance as a pair skater, she seizes the opportunity to continue her career and pairs up with talent pair skater and resident bad boy Justin (Evan Roderick). She soon realizes that in order to chase her skating dreams, she’ll have to overcome fractured family relationships, a rocky partnership, and personal demons that threaten to derail everything she’s worked for.
Married at First Sight – Wednesday, January 1
The Lifetime reality series is back with a new batch of couples ready to get married to strangers sight unseen. Married at First Sight returns Wednesday, January 1 at 8/7c on Lifetime.
Series Description: The cart comes way before the horse in the reality series “Married at First Sight.” Based on a hit Danish format, “Married…” features people who agree to participate in an extreme experiment: Each covenants legal marriage with a complete stranger. Specialists — including a spiritualist, a relationship coach and a sociologist — use scientific matchmaking methods to determine each couple, who will not have met or had contact with each other until the wedding day. The series then documents the relationships, including honeymoons and other relatable events of married life. After several weeks, each couple must decide whether to remain together or go their individual ways.
Deputy – Thursday, January 2
A man finds himself thrust into the position of sheriff after the elected sheriff dies. He soon realizes that there are political strings attached to his new job. How will Bill Hollister deal with it all? Deputy debuts Thursday, January 2 at 9/8c on FOX.
Series Description: The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is one of the largest police forces in the world, but when the elected sheriff dies, an arcane rule in the county charter, forged back in the Wild West, suddenly thrusts the most unlikely man into the job. Bill Hollister is a fifth-generation lawman who is only interested in justice. The bad guys don’t stand a chance but neither do the politicos in the Hall of Justice. The dangers associated with the job often lead the police to LA County General Hospital, where Bill butts heads with the hospital’s chief trauma surgeon — who is also his wife. Given a job he never wanted, in an unfamiliar sea of politics, Bill quickly learns that doing what is expected and doing what is right are two different things, and that his innate, dogged pursuit of justice is the only skill the job truly requires.
Anne With an E – Friday, January 3
It’s the end of the road for our travels with Anne Shirley-Cuthbert as she continues to navigate growing up and finding her way in the world. Anne With an E Season 3 drops Friday, January 3 on Netflix.
