Jason Ritter is set to shake things up on A Million Little Things Season 2.

A TV Line exclusive reports that Ritter has boarded the ABC drama for a multi-episode arc playing someone with ties to Maggie’s (Allison Miller) mother, Patricia (Melora Hardin).

Exact details about the relationship are being kept under wraps, but he is set to “upend everything” when he re-enters their lives.

Ritter’s previous acting credits include Kevin (Probably) Saves the World as well as Another Period, Girls, Parenthood, The Event, and Joan of Arcadia. He has also acted opposite Miller before in the 2014 indie film Always, Woodstock.

It’s also been confirmed that Hardin will also reprise her role as Patrica. Chandler Riggs, Drea de Matteo, and James Tupper are also set to return as PJ, Barbara, and Andrew.

A Million Little Things finished off its first season run on Thursday nights at 9/8c, and is set to return to the same time slot this fall. In that time slot, the freshman drama averaged a 1.1. demo rating, “surging from it’s original Wednesday rating.”

When the series was renewed for Season 2 back in February, ABC network cheif Karey Burke said that there would be a new mystery rolled out, but couldn’t say what that mystery would be.

Last week it was announced that A Million Little Things received a slightly larger episode order for their sophomore outing. The network orginally wanted 22, but creator DJ Nash wanted to keep the storytelling authentic.

“I feel like the compliment our show gets that means the most to me is that it’s authentic,” Nash said. “And yet the thing I love most about our show is flipping cards. For instance, you think Katherine (Grace Park) is horrible and she ends up being someone you love.”

“We flip cards — that’s how we’re built. I don’t want to flip cards so much that it feels inauthentic. So that’s why I said, ‘I gotta do 18.’ And then they said, ‘How about 19?’ And I said, ‘OK,'” Nash explained.
