BH90210 Review: The Photo Shoot (Season 1 Episode 3)
The cast would probably agree that BH90210 Season 1 Episode 3, “The Photo Shoot,” is a mess — it’s supposed to be.
But the mess I’m talking about isn’t the good kind.
The episode is called “The Photo Shoot,” but it should be called “The process of getting everyone to the photo shoot so that fans can watch one second of an iconic photo getting snapped.”

We are deep into the fake personal lives of the cast, and it’s getting harder to care.
To be fair, there is a story here, with recognizable elements like foreshadowing. It should be very obvious that Zach is trouble and Brian (and probably others) are going to pay for it.
The changing dynamics between men and women on set in Hollywood is an important topic to discuss — and frankly, I’m impressed that a parody would go there.

Ian is definitely the right “character” to explore that story with, and the fact that his comments aren’t explicitly sexual makes the issue that much more complex.
Anna is right to let everything go and start over. If Ian strikes twice, that’s a different story. But where anyone’s rights are concerned, efforts to acknowledge mistakes, learn from them, and change should be acknowledged.
It’s frustrating to wait, but people don’t just change overnight. Ian needs the length of this episode to understand that he’s wrong and want to change.
I also just like the fact that Anna is the new head writer. Hotter Donna and David scenes are always a yes.

A no? Christine Elise asking Gabrielle out for a drink. Because she’s a FOX executive and only because she’s a FOX executive.
The #MeToo movement is about power before gender.
Christine is Gabrielle’s boss, therefore they shouldn’t date. Period. Gabrielle should explore her sexuality with any other woman. Maybe Christine has friends that Gabrielle is comfortable with meeting.
Gabby and Christine almost negate the point that Ian’s story is making. It’s a shame.

Moving on to a high point of the episode… While I’m not convinced the cast is at the point where they need therapy yet, Carol Potter is actually a therapist.
This is amazing to discover. Cindy Walsh does always give the best advice that is comforting to hear, even in 2019.
But she’s brought in way too early. Shannen isn’t even on set yet.

If I have to pick, my favorite personal storyline on the episode is surprisingly Jennie and Jason’s.
She’s completely right that he has no right to play the victim when he’s been just as disloyal as Camille. The difference is, she’s pregnant.
That admittedly sucks, and Camille is wrong to lie. The fact that they’re working on the marriage is commendable.

Plus, Jennie and Jason aren’t going to fall in love. That’s a relief; they work so much better as friends.
Just, cross your fingers someone yells “Action!” very soon. The wait is starting to shift from feeling exciting to agonizing. Losing patience is making all of the jokes less funny.
