
TV News Wrap-Up: New ‘Veronica Mars’ Revival Trailer, Geena Davis Cast in ‘GLOW’ Season 3, ‘Stranger Things’ Actor to Host Hidden Camera Show
Summer is here, but TV news has definitely not slowed down. While the summer series are gearing up for new runs there is plenty of casting news and trailers to look forward to still.

Teasers and Spoilers
Another trailer has been released for the Veronica Mars revival premiering on July 26th on Hulu featuring more explosions and more Logan.

Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon released the first photo of their Hulu series Little Fires Everywhere this week. Based on the novel by Celeste Ng, Little Fires Everywhere takes place in an affluent Ohio suburb and centers around the mysterious arson and controversial adoption of a Chinese-American baby. Witherspoon stars as Elena, the matriarch of the well-to-do Richardson family and Washington plays Mia Warren, “an enigmatic mother who, along with her daughter, upend the Richardson’s lives.” An Entertainment Weekly First Look shows the two women as Elena Richardson and Mia Warren.

Renewals and Cancellations
Natasha Lyonne’s Russian Doll has been renewed for Season 2. TV Line reports “No, this isn’t just a nagging case of deja vu: Netflix has renewed the Natasha Lyonne metaphysical comedy Russian Doll for a second season.” Russian Doll Season 1 premiered in February. Lyonne played Nadia, a software engineer who keeps dying while trying to celebrate her 36th birthday and relives the same night over and over again. Season 1 got a lot of critical buzz and the series is expected to be in the running for Emmy’s later this month.

Casting News
Academy Award-winning actress, Geena Davis is set to guest star on GLOW Season 3. Entertainment Weekly reports, “Davis is set to play Sandy Devereaux St. Clair a former showgirl turned entertainment director of the Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino.” Davis is set to appear in five out of the ten episodes when GLOW returns August 9th.

Daniel Radcliffe has joined the interactive Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt special in a mystery role. According to TV Line, no details have been made available about Radcliffe’s role in the interactive special but have speculated based on the official description. The official description states that Kimmy, “sets off on her biggest adventure yet. Three states! Explosions! A dancing hamburger! And you, the viewer, get to decide how the story goes. Will you foil the Reverend’s evil plan and get Kimmy to her wedding on time? Or will you accidentally start a war against the robots? So grab your remote and a tray of delicious scrod, ’cause Kimmy’s got her own Netflix interactive special!”

New Series Orders
Netflix has ordered a new hidden camera series starring Gatten Matarazzo from Stranger Things. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will be called Prank Encounters, and each episode will feature “’two complete strangers each think they’re starting their first day at a new job. It’s business as usual until their paths collide and these part-time jobs turn into full-time nightmares.’” Netflix has ordered eight episodes of the new show to premiere later this year, meanwhile, Stranger Things Season 3 returns July 4th.

In Development
Sandra Bullock is using her college years to develop an Amazon show she’s developing with Akiva Goldsman and John Legend. In a Variety article, the official description of the series describes it as, “a dramedy set in the world of music and dance. It will take place in the American Deep South in the 1980s, where one darkly off-beat young woman defies expectations and sets out in search of love, community, and an identity of her own.”
