Barbie Ferreira Previews HBO’s ‘Euphoria’ at the ATX Television Festival [Video]
Plenty of notable new TV shows are premiering this summer season, but HBO’s Euphoria just might be the most hyped among them.
The upcoming teen drama is based on the Israeli series of the same name, but it’s not at all your typical CW fare. The show’s pilot, which had its first industry screening in Los Angeles earlier this month and was screened once again for ATX Television Festival‘s opening night, has made headlines for its explicit, shocking nature.
Last week at the ATX Television Festival, we had the chance to chat with main cast member Barbie Ferreira about her character on Euphoria.

Ferreira plays Katherine “Kat” Hernandez, described in press materials as a body-conscious teen exploring her sexuality.
“[Kat] is a 16-year-old girl who leads a double life on the internet,” Ferreira explained of her character’s storyline. “And they’re very different, these two lives, and they both kind of take a turn.”
While she wasn’t able to give away much about her arc this season, the model-actress did preview that Kat “goes on a journey.”

Ferreira also spoke about what makes Euphoria so different from the many coming-of-age stories that have come before it.
“Nothing is implied. Everything is shown. [Also], the complexities of the characters,” she said.
“None of us have this storyline where it’s centered around an identity; it’s just something that influences our decisions. And I think that’s really important. Because [viewers] just want to see people they can identify with [on TV], having problems that don’t necessarily have to be those things.”
