Preview — The 100 Season 6 Episode 3: The Children of Gabriel
Season 6 of The 100 is off to an astonishing start, with the first two episodes setting an impressive tone for the beginning of Book II. We’ve been introduced to this new world while also spending a very necessary amount of time setting up and working through conflicts that have been building among the characters we’ve loved for multiple seasons.
We got a little taste of the people who live on Planet Alpha on “Red Sun Rising.” The 100 Season 6 Episode 3, “The Children of Gabriel,” will give us a real introduction to who these people are and how they have survived here for the last 236 years.
Written by Drew Lindo and Directed by Dean White, “The Children of Gabriel” introduces us to the leader of Sanctum: Russell Lightbourne, played by science fiction alumnus J.R. Bourne of Teen Wolf and Stargate SG-1. With whispers of clones in the air, many assume that Russell Lightbourne has the same consciousness as the original Mr. Lightbourne, played by Sean Maguire.
On “Red Sun Rising” Mr. Lightbourne murdered his entire family during their first bi-solar eclipse. With a geneticist who escaped his wrath and a Chekhov’s gun full of embryos for populating the planet, I could easily see this desperate man trying to get his family back and consequently creating an entire society around some pretty questionable scientific ethics.
This episode also sees Bellamy and Octavia reunited for the first time since going into cryo at the end of The 100 Season 5, and Bellamy is far from happy about it.
Still angry with her for the bloodthirsty dictator that she became while they were apart, Bellamy specifically stated that Octavia should be left asleep. But Octavia’s here, and she’s not letting anyone keep her from facing her brother, or fighting for him to forgive her.
Octavia is so clearly lost and untethered without her power, or the love of one of the only people she truly cares about. Without Bellamy, without Lincoln, without Blodreina, Octavia has no idea who she is. If she wants Bellamy’s forgiveness she’s going to have to do a lot of very difficult work to earn it. And from what we can see in the promo, she’s either going to save his life or take another huge miss-step on this journey when she takes on a whole group of Planet Alpha inhabitants.
Do you think Bellamy, Echo, and Octavia will make it back to the transport ship? Do you think Diyoza, Gaia, and Madi will be safe from the people lurking in the woods? Will Diyoza and Octavia’s instincts to stab first and ask questions later come back to bite them both?
Meanwhile, back at the citadel, Clarke gets to meet a dog, and I’m really excited about it! She also gets to wear a dress; The 100 Season 6 is truly a blessing. With Bellamy off to protect Madi and the others at the transport ship, leadership of the main group will once again naturally fall back to Clarke.
Season 6 Clarke is a woman who has learned from all of her past mistakes, as well as the mistakes of others. She has every intention to keep things peaceful and find a place for her people to live safely.
Clarke: We come in peace.
However, this is a whole new world, and frankly, we don’t even know if these people are this planet’s good guys. Clarke is going to have to navigate some tricky territory if she’s going to live up to Monty’s wishes.
It will be interesting to see what Russell and company think of Clarke and the last surviving Earthlings. How long will it take to build trust or will the suspicions start immediately? The Lightbournes may be interested in Clarke’s bloody past, but I’m pretty sure they’re hiding some dark secrets of their own.
Also on “The Children of Gabriel,” it looks like Jordan meets his very first love interest. In the trailer for The 100 Season 6, Jordan seems like he’s having a very nice time with the girl he’s pictured with below. Knowing no one other than his parents for the first 26 years of his life, he’s bound to be on sensory overload as he comes to see the first planet and culture he’s ever had the opportunity to experience.
Clarke, Bellamy, and Abby would clearly do anything to keep Jordan safe. Octavia can probably relate to him in ways I’m hopeful that The 100 will take the opportunity to explore. I’m excited to see Jordan also offer a different perspective on this world as he comes to it without any of the baggage carried by all of our other favorite characters.
We don’t see Abby or Murphy in the promo material below, but given his condition at the end of “Red Sun Rising,” we can hope that she is helping fix whatever it is that has seeped into his veins. I love both of these characters and their weird little relationship.
With Murphy’s veins becoming black and streaky after his eclipse battle with Bellamy, do you think he’s the person we see that we see getting bitten by that monster snake in the trailer? Do you think the snake actually has medicinal properties instead of death venom? Let me know your theories in the comments below!
