The Outpost Review: The Dragman is Coming (Season 1 Episode 10)

Reviews, The Outpost

Not all season finales are created equal. This proves to be true with The Outpost Season 1 Episode 10, “The Dragman is Coming.”

Halfway through the episode, I am set on giving this finale at least 4 stars. Exciting fights? Check! Questions answered? Check! Characters coming full circle? Double check!

It isn’t until I pause the television for a breather, that I notice a slight problem. There are only 2 minutes to spare — and that includes credits! That leaves them no time to put a beautiful bow on the top of this pretty little package.

In fact, there is no bow here at all. Sure, there is a ribbon laid out. It sits off to the side, waiting ever so patiently to be tied on — but the moment never comes.

It seems like maybe the gift wrapper’s house started on fire, and was forced to take the package with them —leaving everything else behind.

With the idea of another season still out for verdict, I am completely flabbergasted. If this show never comes back, our time feels utterly wasted.

I find myself literally cursing the screen as the credits roll. Thank God there are no children in the room — because F-bombs are flying.

The really sad part is, up to this point, everything goes great.

We find out the link between colipsum and plaguelings. This includes why Garret didn’t change into a plagueling after being bit. I’m sure that if you are like me, you already figured this out episodes ago, but it is nice to get a clarification.

We also get a tender moment between Janzo and Talon. Deep down, we all know this relationship would never pan out as more than just friends. Still, it is nice to put that baby to rest — even if it takes an awkward kiss to do so.

Add in the excitement of Talon walking in on Gwynn and Garret — in a compromising position — which is something we have all been waiting for.

All this, along with a sword fight between Talon and Dred, makes for a mesmerizing 45 minutes.

Talon: You figured it out, and now we can stop it from spreading.

Every moment appears to be laid out perfectly, to give us a satisfying conclusion — without making it all too coincidental. That is why it all feels like a lie in the end.

It really feels as though they could wrap this all up in 1 to 2 more episodes, tops. I am tempted to check the internet to see if there isn’t some sort of scheduling error, but I undoubtedly know that Black Lightning starts next week in The Outpost time slot.

Finale aside, The Outpost remains a great show..

The Outpost is the little show that could. It seems to me, that it had everything going against it from the beginning. A small budget summer show — with little to no hype — to stir up a fan base ahead of time.

But with excellent twists and turns — plus the power of two wonderful female leads — the show grabbed our hearts early on. Therefore making us fans, way before the second episode.

So if The Outpost never returns, we can at least remember it fondly, as a great escape from the summertime blues. We can always write fanfic, so that these characters can live on in our hearts and minds.

To keep that mind of yours fresh on the topic, ponder these rather random ramblings.

  • Will colipsum become a thing of the past, now that they know what it is and what it does?
  • How will Gwynn be as queen?
  • Who will Garret end up with ultimately?
  • Is there someone out there for Janzo?
  • Will Dred be captured again? At what cost?
  • Will the Outpost be able to rebuild after all it has lost?
  • Can we at least get a movie to wrap this up properly? Anything?

When you find the time, make sure you use your words to promote The Outpost on Twitter and Facebook. Only this way, will we be able to get Talon the ending she deserves. It worked for a handful of other shows, including Timeless and Last Man Standing.

Let your voice be heard!
