Preview — New Amsterdam Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot
New Amsterdam may be the new medical drama in town, but they’re not here to play. Based on the book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Dr. Eric Manheimer New Amsterdam Season 1 Episode 1, “Pilot” will introduce us to medical director Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold.)
The medical drama genre is saturated with bad boys with good hearts. You know the type: he’s a sarcastic jerk on the outside, but a true softie on the inside; he breaks rules to save lives. Dr. Goodwin seems like the real deal.
He was inspired to become a doctor by the death of his sister. So he’s determined to make change where it counts — policy. At a public hospital, you don’t buck the bureaucracy and make friends. So, there might be some money issues at the hospital, but there will be no shortage of drama.
New Amsterdam has been generating buzz since the release of the first trailer in May. We’re really excited for this one. Check out the photos and video below for a full preview of New Amsterdam Season 1 Episode 1, “Pilot” airing Tuesday at 10/9c on NBC.
Episode description: Inspired by the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director, who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital – the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the president of the United States under one roof – and return it to the glory that put it on the map.
