My husband introduced me to “The Big Bang Theory” after the first few seasons had aired. I quickly caught up and it was my favorite current show for the longest time. Finally, characters on a sitcom I could relate to as a budding Biology major. Of course I “shipped” Leonard and Penny, wondered at and analyzed the gay or non-gay behavior of Raj with my father, and watched Howard mature into a decent man after such an immature start. The addition of Amy was when I became completely obsessed with everything about her and the show. A geeky Biologist who wasn’t too social, didn’t know the hip or cool ways of the world, and had her own unique way of displaying her intellect without coming off like Sheldon.
Unfortunately, I have felt the decline of the show during the past 2 seasons. It’s gotten to the point where not much happens in an episode, and the show has lost a lot of the science references that made it so unique and satisfying in the beginning. Since I as a viewer have aged since the show’s start, I now sometimes have trouble watching Sheldon’s childish antics after a spending a long or rough day in the adult world. However, I will admit the Season 11 finale was superb; well done and brilliantly written. That episode captured so much of the quirky qualities that are hallmark to the entire series (i.e. think white boards making Sheldon and Amy late to their own wedding when white boards were what Leonard and Sheldon used in Season 1 Episode 1 to try to impress Penny). But, I am glad that it is ending before it goes further downhill. If this season is done right, it should wrap everything up in a proper way…hopefully by incorporating the same brilliant writing from the Season 11 finale in every episode of Season 12, and ending by fixing the elevator in the apartment building.
