Take Two Review: The Devil You Know (Season 1 Episode 6)
On Take Two Season 1 Episode 6, “The Devil You Know,” Eddie and Sam team up with a reckless bounty hunter to catch an escaped convict — and hopefully, the half million dollar reward for his capture too.
Right from the start, Piper Mannox is trouble. She hides in the office, attacks Eddie, and steals his gun. Apparently, this is supposed to be some sort of friendly greeting. Too bad Eddie takes her down with ease. He clearly doesn’t see the humor in her tactics.

It seems like Eddie doesn’t have a good past with anyone. Everyone we meet is some type of enemy, and Piper is no different.
The promise of a big payday gets everyone moving fast and working hard. Even Berto and Monica kick into high gear in hopes of getting a bonus. It’s not easy, though, as Piper and Eddie butt heads at every step.
Eddie cares about the law and justice — it’s kind of his thing. No matter the situation, he makes the ethical choice.

On the flip side, Piper is pretty much the opposite of that. She has no preference between right or wrong, as long she gets the job done.
Chris: She doesn’t just break the rules. She douses them in gasoline and sets them on fire.
It’s really interesting that Piper’s wild ways hit home with Sam. She still sees herself as the crazy party girl with no regards for society’s rules. Most of the time, it’s easy for the audience to forget that Sam is a recovering alcoholic and has gone through many struggles.
We see her the way Eddie sees her: she’s the person that cares about other people and works hard to help them. I love that Eddie supports her in her moment of self doubt. Sam puts on such a brave face. But recovery is extremely difficult, and she needs someone to have her back.

I can’t say I’m surprised that Piper turns on Sam and Eddie to take Conrad in herself. In the immortal words of Firefly‘s Hoban Washburne, “Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!”
However, I’m very surprised to see Sam take Piper down with a blender. It’s that kind of quick and resourceful thinking that makes Sam a great budding PI.
Eddie: I didn’t know blenders had that setting.
Sam: I like to mix it up.
Sam and Eddie’s teamwork is spot on. They haven’t known each other very long, but they work together like they have been doing it for years. A couple of zip ties can’t stop them!
Sam and Eddie aren’t the only ones growing closer as time goes on.
At first, I was not a big fan of Berto and Monica. It felt too forced. Obviously, Eddie and Sam are meant to be a couple, so the only other two people working at the office should be a couple too. However, they have been steadily building chemistry every week.
How cute is flustered and tongue-tied Berto?

Likewise, Piper and Conrad aren’t the only people working against Sam and Eddie. As the case comes together, it becomes clear something else is at play…
Deacon is back and creepier than ever!
Brian Markison plays bad so well. He’s so calm when delivering his threats to Eddie, making it all very unsettling. Eddie knows that Deacon will be out of prison soon, and he’s coming for him.
Except Deacon implies that he isn’t coming after Eddie. Rather, he suggests that he’ll be coming after someone Eddie loves.
Does this mean Sam will be his target? I don’t even care if this is setting up for the clichéd “girl gets taken by serial killer, boy saves her, they admit their feelings” storyline. I just don’t want Terri Edda Miller and Andrew W. Marlowe to make me wait four years to see a couple get together again.
