Elementary Review: Meet Your Maker (Season 6 Episode 12)
On Elementary Season 6 Episode 12, “Meet Your Maker,” missing people and job offers both lead to a lot more than first expected.
All in all, I’d have been more curious to see the investigation into the woman killed by a bale of marijuana catapulted over the American border from Canada. Because on this show, that’s a thing.
As I’ve said before, I’m not always totally on board with all the strange twists cases often take. Sometimes they’re done well, and that’s actually true here, too. But I’m personally more intrigued by a regular missing person case, especially with Joan at the helm.
The case takes three major jumps. First, Maria appears to be a person who gets men to give her money just by being pretty and persuasive. Which is great work if you can get it, I suppose.

The second jump is the strongest to me, if only because the writers do such a good job of making the people involved despicable. A group of what I will, for general audiences, call frat boys, whose hatred of women makes them downright dangerous.
Through this arc, we get an especially “enthusiastic” guy named Kyle, posed to kill a bunch of women at a gym because they raised their rates beyond what Maria could afford. Sounds just like how a guy like that would honor a woman.
Once we get to the third jump, I’m slightly less on board. Hand fashioned guns cut out of scrap metal on the black market are another of those twists that are just a little too weird to be logical—at least this late in the case.
We also manage to fit in a standoff/suicide by cop and the revelation that Maria and her shady coworker are alive, albeit not the entirely innocent people Maria’s boyfriend-of-sorts may see her as.

Meanwhile, we get another B plotline with personal connections. This time, these go to Marcus Bell.
I’ve had reason before to wonder whether the showrunners had planned on this being the final season. A lot of character are making moves to new roles in their lives. Now, a new role will likely take someone from us.
This is not the first time Bell has had an opportunity to move beyond his current role as detective. It’s also not the first time Sherlock has been directly involved. This time, though, he looks ready to take the chance that is offered him
Bell often doesn’t get enough to do, and while this has been somewhat acknowledged with him resenting Sherlock in early seasons, I far prefer them working together. And I’m going to miss Marcus if he really does go.
Still, it’s wonderful to see his girlfriend Chantal and the captain both supporting him. And they’re right to say that it’s an honor to be actively headhunted as a U.S. Marshall. Bell has a lot to offer, overshadowed as he often is.

As with so much other personal drama, I’ll be curious to see how this impacts the show. Could next season see us with both a new baby and a new detective for Sherlock to, um, train?
There’s a lot of change coming, and I’m looking forward to most of it. I’ll sure miss Bell if he goes, but the idea of new blood has a lot of possibilities.
Bring on the changes. I’d love to see the e they’ll have.

what was the music that played at the end of the last scene between Sherlock & Marcus? I didn’t see it in the episode credits… Is there a website that keeps track of the music the series uses?
