Young & Hungry Review: Young & Downtown Gabi and Young & Third Wheel (Season 5B Episode 1 & 2)
Young & Hungry Season 5B Episode 1, “Young & Downtown Gabi,” and Episode 2, “Young & Third Wheel,” delivers what it does best, quirky comedy for everyone to love.
Based off of the first and second episodes it’s clear that this season is going to be full of drama now that Josh and Gabi are embracing their new relationship status. The dynamics of the house have changed, even if Yolanda and Elliot now know that their jobs are safe.
Watching Yolanda and Elliot scramble to make sure that they’re on their best behavior for Gabi is one of the funniest things to happen throughout the whole first episode. Well, besides Josh vs. Gabi’s bathroom.

I hope that this season gives us much more of Sofia. I don’t care about her getting a boyfriend or any love interest; I just want more Sofia on the screen with a good storyline.
I know that it might be wrong to say, but now that Josh and Gabi are finally in a relationship they could take a step back, and we could see a season around Sofia. I know, the show isn’t directly about her, but in reality, Josh and Gabi already know everything there is to know about each other.
For Gabi and Josh, this isn’t a brand new relationship where they’re just now getting to know each other. They’ve dated before and seen how the other likes things done. It’s the fact that now they can finally admit their true feelings for one another at the same time.

Gabi and Sofia are entirely too in love with one another to let their relationship completely break apart, but maybe some time away would be a good thing for the both of them. Gabi is always looking out for Sofia and thinking of ways to help her or protect her, but Sofia has to learn how to live on her own where she isn’t being watched all of the time.
Gabi interrupting her date with Dick may come from a place of love, but ultimately Gabi just ruins another thing by getting involved and meddling when it isn’t needed. Sofia likes money and handsome men, both of which Dick is, so I don’t think he would’ve been a bad choice.
Sofia is picky when it comes to the people she dates, so when she finally chooses someone, she doesn’t need any help trying to figure them out.

I think that a big move the show should take this season is us seeing Gabi move into Josh’s house, leaving Sofia with the apartment by herself. That could lead to so many possible storylines, but I understand it probably won’t happen.
Yolanda and Elliot’s crazy shenanigans are what makes my day. Things wouldn’t be the same if Elliot couldn’t give Gabi a little bit of trouble on a daily basis, but it’s still different because now he has to endure them showing off their love even when Gabi is technically on the clock.
See, Gabi could move in with Josh, and he would have a live-in chef/girlfriend. I mean, that’s basically what he has now anyway so why not make it official?

Elliot wearing nothing but a fur coat, all to spice up his relationship with Alan, is pure amusement. The way that Rex Lee and Kym Whitley play off of each other is magnificent and will be something that I miss sorely when this show ends.
Josh’s obsession with Sofia being around Gabi is a little concerning since he knows that’s how they act and have acted the whole time Josh has known Gabi. Yeah, she might be a bit of a third wheel, but you have enough wine and bedrooms, buddy.
The beginning of this season is starting off with a good run, let’s hope that it stays that way.
