Preview — The 100 Season 5 Episode 8: How We Get to Peace

Previews, The 100

On “Acceptable Losses,” many things didn’t go according to plan for our heroes, and on The 100 Season 5 Episode 8 “How We Get to Peace,” we’re going to see the fall out of their adaptive choices.

The previous episode dropped quite a few plot twists on us, from Clarke deciding to take out Octavia to Diyoza’s pregnancy reveal, we’re still reeling thinking about what it all means for the future of The 100.

Directed by Antonio Negret and written by Lauren Muir, “How We Get to Peace” takes us further down the rabbit hole with Monty’s words about breaking the cycle still ringing in our ears. With Octavia taking an unsettling interest in Madi, Clarke has decided it’s time to do something about Blodreina.

Blodreina is ruthless and a far cry from the girl under the floor that Madi grew up idolizing, and Clarke is done watching from the sideline as Octavia pulls her daughter further into her web of war.

And can anyone blame Clarke? I can’t; Octavia has no qualms about sacrificing the innocent for her agenda, and she’s not backing down from this fight even if it means sacrificing her own humanity.

But Clarke’s stance against Octavia looks as if it’s going to push Bellamy into quite the predicament. While he certainly no longer has any illusions of Octavia being innocent by any means, but she is still his sister. Will Clarke’s quest to protect Madi mean that Bellamy has to be party to the murder of his own family?

The Blakes have had their share of bad blood, but I feel like that might be a bridge too far for Bellamy.

Clarke’s plan to protect Madi may also put the remaining members of SpaceKru in danger. What will happen when Clarke and Bellamy’s priorities clash? Will they both be able to protect everyone they love, or will they be forced to go against each other?

Either way, I cannot wait to see how their tenuous alliance with Indra progresses now that Octavia has veritably threatened to banish her most trusted general. Will Indra be their inside man? Will her goals align more with Clarke’s or Bellamy’s?

Is there any way for all of them to save Octavia before it’s all over?

Meanwhile, back in Shallow Valley Kane appeals to Diyoza’s humanity with his vision of what the future could be as compared to what it will be if they continue to wage war in the last green place on Earth with all that remains of the human race.

On “Acceptable Losses” Diyoza revealed to Abby that she’s pregnant. If anything is a symbol of hope, possibility, and new life, it’s a baby.

With Kane and Abby spending some time apart, will she have told him about Diyoza’s secret? Will the knowledge that a child’s life is now in her hands help pull Abby out of her addiction?

Something tells me that while Diyoza may not have ever been the kind of woman to want kids, she is definitely the kind of woman who wants there to be a good world left for children to grow up in. You don’t exactly take down fascist governments without aiming to create a better world for those who come after you.

McCreary: It must be hard being a visionary surrounded by people who can’t see.

Diyoza: Story of my life.

Kane has also always been someone who is able to see the bigger picture. I truly believe that Kane might just be able to get through to Diyoza so that they can take actionable steps toward peace, but with Octavia refusing to back down and the two of them surrounded by criminals, putting such a plan into action may be easier said than done.

“How We Get to Peace” also looks to bring us back to Murphy and Emori and their newly acquired hostage, McCreary. A veritable Bonnie and Clyde before the time jump, Murphy and Emori have always been excellent schemers, coming up with ever more cunning ways to make sure they survive and get what they want.

How will they use McCreary now that they’ve got him? How will McCreary handle being on the other side of the hostage/torturer situation? Will Diyoza even want him back or is McCreary just useless, dangerous leverage?

Will we see the further fallout of what happened between Raven, Echo, and Shaw? How will Abby come to terms with the addiction that is destroying her? Will Monty’s Algae Agenda take root and save them all?
